I like the look of regular hoods above a range and not mircorwaves. I would put the microwave on a countertop, or better yet have a space in the cabinets made for it.

I voted over the range. We unfortunately don't have enough space to put one over the range, so we have it on the countertop but it takes up space and makes it look more cluttered.

We have it over the range and I really like it...includes the fan, which I never had and has come in handy...

LOVE my over the range!!
It's the perfect height. More counter space. We use the fan, ad most importantly - the light - when we cook on the stove. LOVE IT.

I am such a shorty- 4'11 1/2" and I just wonder how much of an issue it will be for me . . .

My microwave is not above the cooktop but built into the cabinets up top

And i am 5'6 and the microwave opens up like a regular oven, not like your typical microwave and anyone shorter than me would not be able to reach in to get anything out of it without trying to go through the side

I defin think take in to account of how tall you are and if it will be a struggle

Mine isn't cause i am a good height for it, but my mom who is barely 5 feet can not get into it

Right now, we have an over the range microwave, but you didn't put an option for "other". When we redo our kitchen, we are going to have a real vent above the stove that vents to the outside. We are most likely going to have the microwave mounted in the cabinets near the stove, but technically above the stove.

We are redoing our kitchen now and opted out of the over the range microwave and put in a special little area for extra storage and a small microwave.

The over the range microwaves are huge and we are not big microwavers so we just want a small one for basically popcorn and for DH to reheat coffee! I didn't want a microwave to be a focal point of our new kitchen.

we had it on the countertop, but when we got our new appliances we got one that goes over the range.

I'm not crazy about it, but it's not a battle worth having.

We put ours under the counter in the island. Love it there. You don't see it when you walk into the kitchen.

You need a choice for other!

I have mine inside a cabinet in my island. The only downsides are that the microwave is a little bit on the small side (but fine for me) and when we have kids we will definitely have to childproof that somehow.

I prefer the look of a wooden or stainless hood over the stove. We have one that matches the wood of our cabinets over our stove.

I didn't put "other" because these are the only choices I am debating on.

I don't like the idea of losing counter or cabinet space, but am worried about accessing the microwave above the stove, especially since I am short. This sounds so silly, but I am so clumsy and just worry about having the gas stove going and trying to reach into the microwave to heat something else up and losing my balance or something.

We already have a toaster oven that will take up space on the counter.

I thought about getting a seperate cart for the toaster oven and microwave, but I feel the kitchen will then look too cluttered.

I voted neither. When we had our kitchen designed we had a cabinet made in our island just for our microwave. I wasn't a fan of the over the range microwaves and I did not want it on the countertop.

I prefer it over the stove. As many people said, frees up counter space.
