Re: over the range microwave
I would have freaked out, too. I've had several over the years, and have never had one go on automatically.... are the microwave and stove part of a connected set?

Re: over the range microwave
Mine has done that too. Not often - I use my oven a lot so it's been on for hours at times and it fan doesn't come on. In fact I can't even recall the circumstances when it came on but it freaked me out too. But the part that was worse is I couldn't turn it off and was double baffled.

Re: over the range microwave
My inlaws have a kitchenaid over the cooktop micro and it kicked on and we were so freaked out, we thought it was possessed.

Re: over the range microwave
hahaha.. the same thing happened to me! So i decided to do the obvious thing that i should've done in the first place - read the manual
ours said that the microwave will automatically vent itself when it reaches a certain temperature. So its not the actual vent that you turn on yourself for the stove, its something separate to cool itself down.
