Is this a weird gift to give?
So my 5 year old son has two birthday parties to go to this weekend. They are both girls from his class. I don't know either of their Moms particularily well, just in passing.
I wanted to get something useful and different. I bought the cutest canvas bags in Target's dollar section and wrote their names on them with fabric paint. Then I bought each a nice beach towel and some cute kids sun glasses. All of that only came to $12.00 and I usually spend around $20 so I picked up a cute 2 piece bathing suit for each girl (not a bikini...shorts with a rashguard shirt)
But now I am thinking...is a bathing suit a little too personal to give to someone that you don't know too well? For some reason I feel weird about it and I can't figure out why. Of course I will give them a gift receipt but should I give them something else instead of the bathing suit? I am sure they have enough bubbles and water guns. What would you do?

I was all set to say no, but the bathing suit threw me off. I am going to saw yeah, weird gift. If it was a t-shirt and shorts I would have said wow how cool.

I would ditch the bathing suits and get some sun block, and maybe pail and shovels or something like that for the beach.

I don't think so at all...you got board shorts and a rash guard...I would LOVE that!
I don't especially think even a bathing suit would be odd. I personally, was truly appreciative of the suits DS got last year and hopefully will get this year.

I agree - sounded awesome until the bathing suit part. Can you do a cute cover-up maybe?
reminds me of the time my mom bought my DH (then just my boyfriend) a package of boxer briefs for Christmas and thought nothing of it.

What exactly is weird about it???  I think it's an adorable themed gift. If someone gave me that same gift for my 2 1/2 yr. old DD I would be thrilled. I think it's adorable and I wouldn't hesitate to give the gift just exactly as it is.

I don't think it's weird - it's a theme gift.
Honestly - I think I would prefer that over sunscreen or beach toys. Not everyone uses the same type of sunscreen... He also has a ton of pails and shovels and he's only 17 months old.

My next door neighbor got my DD a bathing suit (regular, not rash guard or bikini) when she was born and I thought it was adorable!

Guess I'm weird too then. My dd is giving a girl in her K class a bathing suit and beach coverup for a birthday gift this week. They have a pool so DD kept saying that's what she wanted to get. I included the gift receipt in case it's the wrong size, style, etc.

Same here.
If you are questioning it, I'd do like the other poster said and include toys or a cover up. Maybe a inflatable beach ball or water squirters.
