My DD just had her bday party this past weekend, however, she just turned 2.
One of my aunts did a theme basket.
She did:
A Beach Ball
Sunblock
A Bag
and a Coverup.
As long as its not a bikini, I think it's a great idea!

I don't find it weird at all, it's part of the gifts theme and its a tasteful bathing suit. Now if it was a bikini then yes def weird.
However if you are feeling weird about it maybe return them and get something else. Beach toys or outdoor chalk. I do like what you already have though.

I just have to add - my son is not even two and we have more beach toys than we know what to do with. I can't imagine how many a 4/5 year old would have. I would much rather get the suits than more beach toys.
And I agree with another poster in regards to the sunscreen - everyone has their fave. I won't use anything but Baby Blanket on DS so any other sunscreen is sort of a waste.

me too..and its not an itsby bitsy 2 pc bikini..its a rash guard shirt and shorts. I would leave it. sounds very cute all put together.

Mom of a girl here and I think it's a great gift. You bought board shorts and a rashguard not a bikini so no weird at all IMO.

ITA with both above. YOU need to feel comfortable with the gift, and if you don't, swap it out for T-shirts or something similar.
I have to say, my absolute favorite gift for DD was when my mom's friend bought her 2 bathingsuits from baby gap. DD was born in December, and the bathing suits came in January, and it just totally made my winter - they were sooo cute, and one thing I didn't have, and gave me something to look forward to.
One was a 1 piece, and the other was a bottom with a rashguard shirt.

Thanks so much for all of the responses. I am not sure why I felt weird about it (maybe because I don't know their Mom's well enough to know if they would think it was weird)
I am going to leave it as is (give the bathing suit with the other things) If the Mom's don't want the bathing suit, I'll include the gift receipt so that they can return it.

i don't think thats weird at all, i don't know why a bathing suit gift would be weird for a child,
bathing suit as a gift for me i would think was weird but not for my child
actually my dds got bathing suits as a birthday gift from one of dh's friends and his wife, i didnt think it was weird, just ugly lol, neon green is not my style, and it was a bikini
