Do people equate trashy with blue collar? Each time the icicle light debate comes up people say that the controversial poster called them trashy. However, I think the actual term she used was "blue collar".

Interesting observation. What's funny is that my father was blue collar with a white collar income and we lived in a white collar neighborhood. I like icicle lights, but its a moot issue - I'm a lonely Jew on Christmas. But what does everyone think of hanging Magen David? I haven't decided.

my father was a blue collar with white collar income too..we were the only half jews on the block in a world full of catholics with icicle lights..
i actually always begged my dad to put the big huge colorful bulbs up (now THOSE are white trash!!) but my jewish mother told me they were guyish (sp?)

Hey, I am the only Jew on my block. HOWEVER, I have the best statue of the Virgin Mary on my lawn, awesome Christmas lights (some of which are icicles I think) because my landlord takes a lot of pride in making his home festive. I appreciate it. If you look UPSTAIRS in the window, you will see a cheesy plastic menorah in the window for Chanukah. We decorate inside the house.

Actually, I thought the term used was "middle class" and the offended parties interpreted that to mean trashy. The OP may have elaborated by saying "blue collar" but she herself never called them trashy.
Personally I don't have icicle lights but I don't have a house... I do, however, have a china cabinet. And I LUURRRVE it.

WE'VE GOT IT!!! Granted it isnt really a deck per se - more like the top of the double garage. But it is gated in and we have a lovely (and cheesy) backyard set that we bought at PATHMARK for about $150 two years ago complete with umbrella. We have a grill up there too. It happens to be a great space but we'd have charred feet if we did not cover it with something.
