Is it OK to point your SO in the right direction re:presents?
I'm one of those people who LOVE to shop for gifts for people. I start thinking about it early & put a lot of thought into what I get. I've had my BF's Christmas presents for about a month now. He's also really easy to shop for.
He, on the other hand, does not like to shop at all. He worries about what to get people, and is pretty indecisive overall. He's a bit of a perfectionist, and I think he worries the person on the receiving end won't like what he picked out.
Last night I was talking about how perfect the gift I got him is, and how I can't wait to give it to him. He mentioned he's unsure about what to get me, and it sounded like he was asking for my help. I mentioned I'd love a heart necklace (he's my first serious relationship, and I think they're sweet to wear & have). He sounded more nervous after I brought it up, and I know he was thinking about the price and which style to get. (he admitted early on he is clueless when it comes to jewelery!)
So today I made a tiny "white lie" and said an ad just happened to pop up on my Facebook with a style I like. He said I could send it to him, so I just sent him a pic of it from my phone. It's in his price point and just what I would want. I told him he doesn't have to feel like he needs to get me one at all, but if he was thinking of it, it would be a style I'd like over others. I let him know I'd be happy with anything he gets me.
What do you think? Is that OK or pushy?
ETA: I just noticed the text never sent, so I still have time to back out! Haha

I think its fine, I leave magazine pages of what I want around the house because otherwise I get stuff I don't want, hahaha.

I do more than point in the right direction. DH is awful at gift-giving. I periodically give him lists of specific things I want (a few) that he can choose from for different gift-giving occasions. That way I get something I want but he still gets to surprise me.

I think whatever works for your relationship is "OK"
For us, yes, I have a pinterest page of things I like (and some stuff on Amazon) and DH knows about them

Honestly I would not ever do that with a boyfriend....unless he was very serious, live-in...but definitely with a husband because they become more and more dense it seems....at least mine does.

That is not so bad, my husband buys it and tells me to credit his card!!! But it works for us. I like when people tell me what they want, I'm not out to waste my money on crap.

well isn't this the truth. DH genuinely wants me to tell him what i want, and i do. It makes his life easier, and i get what i want - a win-win sitaution

This - my DH would have no idea what to get if I didn't tell him...

Re: Is it OK to point your SO in the right direction re:presents?
Its totally fine. My DH is horrible at gift shopping for me. I'll end up with stuff I don't like & then he gets offeneded that I don't like it. So he gets a list that he can pick from.

DH gets a list of things I want emailed to him, with links if applicable. He would be lost without this and asks for it every year.

I'm actually going to the store today to buy my christmas present to me from him SO I definitely don't see anything wrong with pointing him in the right direction.

"Point" would be putting it mildly for me. I think "massive shove in the right direction" would be more appropriate.

Re: Is it OK to point your SO in the right direction re:presents?
lol DH and I make christmas lists (including where to get the gift lol) and we e-mail them to each other. Then we distribute each other's christmas list amongst our families. It may take the surprise away but everyone gets what they want and it makes Christmas easier! Both of our families do it as well! lol

I see nothing wrong with this. I never know what toask for, my DH actually usually does a better job on his own but there have been times I have requested things!

Re: Is it OK to point your SO in the right direction re:presents?
So I read DH your post and the replies. His response was to tell me that if there is ever something I want I should just buy it and wrap it for myself. Nice. I try so hard with his gifts.

Re: Is it OK to point your SO in the right direction re:presents?
If pointing him in the right direction means leaving him the Victoria's Secret and Boston Proper catalog with sticky notes next to outfits I want with the color and size written on them- then yeah, I think pointing him in the "right" direction is A-OK!

Re: Is it OK to point your SO in the right direction re:presents?
I pretty much just tell DH what I want.
We were just talking about it yesterday...I told him I wanted new PJs and I would send him the link to the ones I want. I also told him I want a pandora charm, but to pick out one himself. So the actual charm he picks will be a surprise.
