Need some help for Grandma - do you know someone? can you point me in right direction

Grandma is in her nineties.

Was spry and "with it" mentally up until
very recently, where she started saying and doing weird things. Chat Icon Only health issue she has is osteoporosis.

She can no longer be left by herself in her home, although a relative who holds a full-time job lives with her.

We need someone to care for her in her home, until relative comes home. Nursing home is not an option at this point.

There is an upstairs apartment in the house, so we were thinking someone could live up there for FREE and be paid to watch her.

We just want someone who is kind and well-versed in comfort care.

Any ideas?

Try looking for a home health agency in your area that offer private duty services. They usually have employees who will "live in" with your grandma a few days a week and then switch off with someone else, depending on how often you want someone there. I no longer live in NY, otherwise I'd recommend an agency.

Good luck!

Thank you! Chat Icon

We were trying to avoid the private agencies due to the generally costs, so that's why we figured we'd offer them to live in the apt rent-free and pay a decent wage for caring for her.

Try care.com. They have a senior care section.

You would have to do a lot of screening, interviewing, etc, but at least it can help narrow down the search a bit. I found 2 reliable people there when I needed help getting my grandmother to appointments.
Good luck Chat Icon

Here's the link and I think it bypasses them asking you to join.

We had the same situation before my grandma passed away. Where do you live? I'm still in touch with our aide aide and we loved her.

Try sittercity. I found some wonderful aides for my mother-in-law from there. They do background checks for you and you can interview as many people as you want.

I would love to recommend the girl we had right before my mother in law passed away, she was wonderful but she just recently got another job.

Had the same exact issue with my grandma Chat Icon

We tried agencies but she didn't like any of them so my aunt found someone from church. Maybe you can try that?

Chat Icon For you bc I know how tough it is being in this situation. We are now dealing with it all over again with DH grandma.
