if your infant was big - was he/she always big ?

quick question

DD#1 was born 7lbs 6oz 20"
DD#2 was born 8lbs 1oz 20" (1 week late)


DD#1 was always wearing clothes for her age.... She is now 3yrs old - and is fine for her age.


DD#2 at her 4 month check up was 17lbs and 26" (she has my 7month old stats)
DD#2 wears my older daughers 9-12 mont clothes.

I dont feel like shes FAT - but shes a big baby i wont lie.

My question is - will she always be bigger or does it at some point (lets say 12 months) gradually even out?

What are your experiences?

Ds1 was 9lbs 2 oz...he was always right around his actual size according to his age. up until probably like 18 months. This summer he was still in 18 month bathing suit. he turned 3 in July.

DS 2 was 9lbs 120z he is now9 months. He is 20.8 lbs. he is in 12 month clothing. HE IS BIG!

My boys were 7-12 and 9-3, respectively, at birth. My older one dropped to the 5th percentile for weight at 4 months. He remained there until 2 years old, when he jumped up to 25th. Now, at 2.5, he is 50th. My younger one, now 10 months, is currently 30th percentile.

DS was 8lbs 21.5inches at birth but grew to be a BIG baby. He was off the charts for height and weight.

As an infant he always wore double the size he was. (at 3m he wore 6m, at 6m he wore 12m, 9m he wore 18m).

He is 13 months now and just starting to slow down. He is wearing size 24 months but its a tad big on him.

My niece and nephews were all big babies, the boys were both over 9 lbs at birth and chunky monkeys. They are now all tall but very thin. You would never guess they were born so chubby. I don't think there's always a correlation, every kid is different.

My first two were
=7lbs 6oz
=8lbs 10oz (in fact, she also weighed 17lbs at 4 mos)

They are 7 and 5 now and they both pretty much wear 6/6x. They're also both a 12.5/13 shoe. My older one is tiny and my younger one is big. They're constantly mistaken for twins.

Sean was 9.2 lbs and 21 in
He was then the smallest in his class for a long time, hit a growth spurt and is now average height and thin. He's 3.5 and wears a 3T - but if the pants are cut too wide, he looks ridiculous.

Colin was born 6.10 lbs and 20 in - he's bigger. Pretty much average for his age I think but different body type from Sean. Much more solid, thicker ......

yes for us, big infant, big baby, big toddler.


I don't remember the measurements exactly. DS was born over 95% in height and 50% in weight, 1 week late.

He's now 2.5y old and hes still over 95% height and 75% in weight.

For clothes, I looked at where he plotted on the height curve for the average curve, and used his adjusted age for clothes from that. It was also good for predicting sizes for the seasons to come.

He's wearing 3t-4t now, and has some sweaters in 5.

It's different for every child.

My son was born at 9 lbs. He was over the 95% at every appt for 3 years. He had rolls on his arms, legs, wrists, etc. It was fantastic.

He just had his 3-year appt and weighs 39 lbs, which is still large for a 3 year old. But he's not a fat kid. He's solid.

His weight gain slowed significantly between ages 2 & 3. Now he is just getting taller.

When people look at me and my DH, they are surprised we had such a big baby. But we make 'em big in my family. All big, healthy babies with rolls, and then they eventually thin out.

Nope

DS was 9.1 when he was born. He was about a size up from his age, until about a year. He is now 2 and wearing 24mths/2T, his stats are 45% height and 55% weight.

Both of my kids have been tall for their age so they needed a larger size shirt for arm length at a very young age.
At birth my kids were in the 7 lb range, but 22 inches in length.

DS is 75% for height and 65% for weight. He is 5 years old and wears a 6 in tops and pants. In shorts he wears a 5. He needs larger sizes for length, so shirts are big on him, but if he wore a smaller size it would look like he had on 3/4 sleeve shirts. He has always been 1 size above his age.

DD just turned 3 and she wears 3T in both tops and bottoms. She wore 24 month/2T for over two years. So she was in size 24 months from 13 months until 34 months. She is 80% for height and 70% for weight. HTH

My DS was really big. Over 10lbs at birth and 20lbs by 4 months. Now at 18 months he is average at 25 lbs and 32 inches. He has been wearing the same 18 month clothes since 10 months! His growth completely slowed down!

My smallest baby(I have had 4) was bigger than your largest(8lbs 6 ozs at birth and 19lbs at 4 months). Your baby doesn't seem large to me at all. Seems average.

My youngest son was 9.4 at birth and 30 pounds at 9 months.

He's now 7 and very much average sized ( height and weight) as compared to his peers, but he's very solidly built and very strong.

Ds1 was 9.4 and 21 1/4 " (7 days late)
He has remained in the 90th for his height and 50th for weight. He will be4 in Feb and weighs 38lbs and he is 42"

Ds2 was 8.9 and 21" (11 days early)
He has been in between the 5-10th for his weight and just under 50th for height I think. He is 17 months and weighs 21lbs and is 33"

Both boys are tall and skinny.

DS#1 was born 7lbs 15oz almost 2 weeks late
DS#2 was born 5lbs 3.6oz 8 weeks early.

DS#2 has always been much bigger then DS#1 & solid. As an infant, he was chunky but thinned out when he started to move. In terms of clothes, my plan of having #2 wear clothed from #1 worldview until this summer. Both boys are now in the same size.

DS#1 was 38lbs at 3 yr visit & wears 4T bottoms & 5T tops but he's extremely tall tor his age.

DS#2 was 39.5lbs at 2 yr visit & wearing 3T bottom & 4T tops but also tall, maybe 2 inched shorter then #1.

My DS was born at 8lbs 14 oz and 21.5 inches - 10 days early.

He is 17 months and is 34ish inches (90th percentile) and 27lbs. His weight was very high for the first 6 months or so, but now he gains weight much slower and is closer to average. He just keeps getting taller. He wears 2T clothes and looks like he is 3!

MY DD was huge. SO heavy. Born a month early but weighing 7.6lbs. Not tall but just heavy. She was extremely heavy the first year. Still chubby second year. Third year thinned out alot. Now going on 4 and very skinny!!

So no, I dont think it determines what they are destined the be physically.
