IF your DC takes 1 good nap a day...

Do you try to make sure that they take it, or do you just go about your errands hoping they fall asleep and catch some zzz's along the way?

Yes...I try to always be home for DS nap. I will run errands in the morning then come home for nap and go out again after his nap.

DD goes to daycare during the week so it is pretty much at the same time every day... on the weekends-we do whatever we are going to do and she usually sleeps at some point but it is usually not the same as her regular daycare nap, but she adjusts well.

I schedule our day around DD's nap from 11-2. It's rare that we're ever NOT home at that time so she can nap. I even trained DS to nap at the same time as her. lol

Re: IF your DC takes 1 good nap a day...

DS is not the kind of kid to sleep on the go, he needs to be in his crib and he needs his nap.

We plan around his naps, if it is just errands there is plenty of time in the rest of the day for me to get things done. If we are going to be visiting someone I bring the PNP so I can set it up and give him his nap.

I know some parents scoff at the idea of planning around a child's sleep schedule but every child is different and has different needs, you have to see what works best for your child.

If it was just errands, I would wait until she woke up. But if we wanted to do something as a family and had to leave at a certain time, I would just go do it.

Re: IF your DC takes 1 good nap a day...

DS needs that nap, otherwise its a mess. We plan our day around the 10:30 - 1 window, depending on the time he woke up. He will take a solid 2 hour nap every day. If we are out somewhere, he'll take a very short nap, and that's just not good for anyone Chat Icon

Re: IF your DC takes 1 good nap a day...

During the week my ILs are very good about putting her down for a nap every day. On the weekend we always have so many errands to run that sometimes she ends up sleeping in the car. Once she's fallen asleep in the car, usually we cannot get her to transfer from the car to her bed still sleeping. And once she's up she doesn't go back to sleep.

Re: IF your DC takes 1 good nap a day...

OK I am like this too I wait for her nap to go about my errands...but someone is watching DD today and she took her out and about around her nap time and she only napped for 45 minutes which I know is going to lead to a cranky and fussy baby when I get home! Maybe she will go down again, but not likely. I just wish they would have gone out after she napped...I'm annoyed lol.

You know I am really not at all. It's a family member and when they told me they were running errands today I said "after her nap?" and she said no early and then hopefully she will go down at my house cause I want to drop stuff off. Which didn't make me happy at all since I know they don't have a pack and play or crib at their house but I couldn't bring myself to say something :(. Now I had DH check up and she had a 45 minute nap which I knew would happen. I wish I had just said run your errands after she sleeps!

Re: IF your DC takes 1 good nap a day...

When it was just Ryan, we were strict about the nap - getting in the good nap. Now, with two, impossible to be home for both of their "good" naps.

On days I want them to relax and have their schedule - it's
Colin - 9:30-11:30AM
Ryan - 12:30-2:30PM
Colin - 2:30-4PM

Chat Icon

So, if I have errands to get done I usually end up going after Colin's 1st nap and pushing Ryan off as long as possible hoping to coordinate them both in the afternoon.

Same here. Except for if we are visiting someone. DD won't nap anywhere but a crib. She will NOT sleep in a PNP at all. If we have to be somewhere during her naptime, we leave as close to naptime as possible and hope she will catch some sleep in the car.

I try to be home for the girls since they both can take a nice 2 hour or so nap. DD#1 has been skipping to every other day with her naps so it's easier if I'm not running around with them both when nap time comes. I try to do my errands before or afterwards with them

Ditto...
sleeps well at daycare and weekend I try and stick to staying at home at his naptime. If it doesn't work then he'll fall asleep wherever. He's usually good at adjusting

during the week, DS goes to daycare thurs/friday. I am home with him monday, my mom has him tuesday, and both me and my mom have him wed. So I try to make sure that he takes his 1good nap a day. on the weekends, we're usually out its different. He will usually nap, maybe just a little later than usual.

I try to schedule around naptime. DS just sleeps better at home. I have gone out on occasion during his nap but it usually winds up being a disaster for us.

Re: IF your DC takes 1 good nap a day...

I run my errands in the AM.... DS goes to sleep after lunch around 1:30/2pm ish. I dont go crazy to make sure I am home exactly at that time but I do try to do most of my stuff.

DS is nearly 3 now so I am more flexible, but we went down to 1 nap at 12 months and then I was more strict at being home
