My DD is a broken record. She says the same thing overrrrrr and over again. To the point where I'm ready to lose my mind.

For example...while in the car yesterday she said "I want yogurt." I didn't have any in the car but assured her tht when we got home in 20 minutes that she could have a yogurt. For the next 20 minutes, she kept repeating "yogurt!!!!" until we got home. Reasoning with her was useless.

Anyone else go through this??

I can remember going through this with my sister (who I raised and is now 16 and incredibly smart), I also remember my brother going through this, and I'm pretty sure I was a broken record around that age too. You can't reason with a child that age because they don't understand in the same way we do.

Yes. It's annoying as all get-out! Mine often ask for yogurt too. I try to distract. They have one track minds.

Mine does this also...or I'll tell her something, and she repeats it back to me multiple times as a question. To which I just keep answering yes, yep, uh huh, yes etc.

OMG yes it was!
You reminded me.
There was one time my daughter was saying something over and over and over so many times in the car that we had to turn up the radio to drown her out.
It was something she wanted...she kept saying it and saying it, and saying it- non stop .
It was maddening.

Yes, when dd wants something she will repeat it until she gets it. Last night we were driving home from the store and she wanted me to hold her, which I couldn't since she was in her car seat. So the hold ride home we had to hear "mummy mummy mummy mummy mummy mummy....."

If you have a 2-3 year old... Is this normal?

LOL Oh those days..
We have a rule, the more you ask the less you get.

So that when her friend came over a few weekends ago she said she wanted Ice Cream, which we were planning on the girls having, but she kept saying it over and over Ice cream, ice cream, ice cream and AJ said "Stop! Don't you know, the more you ask the less you get! If you don't stop we'll never see ice cream again" my hubby died in the kitchen in laughter.

But yes, it is my rule. You ask for something and its either a yes or a no. If I say yes but later or give me a second or whatever, you stop there and then. You got a yes. Be glad. Ask again and I'll warn you. Ask a third and I will say "now you have to wait longer" Ask a fourth and I will sadly inform you that you've lost the privilege. Cry if you must, but you did it. Ask later on to see if I've changed my mind and lose the privilege for the next time too and the answer's still no.

If I say no, I will say why. If I say no because I say so or even with a good reason you will stop asking, period. If its something I normally am ok with just don't have or something reasonable but you want to whine or cry, I will hold you and sadly softly explain that now it's not going to happen even when and if I could because no one wants to give something to a crying child. (and yes this is where I explain we can't always have what we want, life is full of disappointments and I never lie to her, if I could I would, but I can't and now I won't)

Some show had a phrase that said "You get what you get and you don't get upset" can't remember now which is was. But man AJ hung on those words. To be fair my kid is pretty happy with her world and a no here and there rarely rocks her. But yes. My rule always applies. Ironically I wanted to see a movie and it was sold out (with her of course) and I was bummed and AJ said "Remember mama, the more you ask the less you get" true enough, kiddo!

It makes my head spin... She reminds me of rain man.... I asked my pediatrician about that actually bc OCD runs rampid in this fam and he assured me that it's simply the age.... And from the responses on here, I'm going to believe him lol.

You have no idea how happy I am that you posted this and all of the responses are the same. I was starting to think there was something wrong with DS. It's like he's obsessed and possessed. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. I was starting to get a little worried.

My DS is 3.5 and still does it. Sometimes it helps now to say "I heard you". Doesn't work every time but worth a shot.

Yesssss! 27mos and she does it about yogurt too. She'll stand at the fridge and ask for yogurt and if I am a free rooms away I am like okay coming and she'll keep asking until it's in her hands. If we are in the car I try to hard to change the subject or distract. The worst is if she drops something and as I am driving I cannot IMMEDIATELY get it.

Sometimes I think she's obsessive too! Good to hear it's the age.
