"normal" for an almost 3 year old?

DS will be 3 in November. I'm a SAHM, but take him to a lot of programs, have him around friends kids, etc. so its not like hes never around other kids.
BUT... he is the "Grabber" Chat Icon he'll randomly just grab another kid, grab a little girls hair, push another kid, etc. It seems like its more with younger kids... but still I have to stay on top of him all the time around other kids, because its SO random and usually not provoked. Then other times, like yesterday, he played great with my friends 4 kids for almost 3 hours!
He is very verbal (uses 4-5 word sentences most of the time), so I don't think its anything to do with that.... and I can see this being something a younger toddler does (like 18 months or so), but being close to 3 just seems a little bit old for this random grabbing.
any ideas?? anyone else in the same boat?

In the same exact boat with my 2.5 year old. She definitely does it more with kids her own age or younger. She'll play great with kids who are just a little older. She also has an extensive vocabulary so I don't think it's frustration over not having words. If a kid gets in her personal space, her first reaction is to whack them. I'm a WAHM/SAHM so sometimes I think I don't have her around other kids enough. But we've been doing programs since she's 7 months and she sees friends kids and her cousins very often.

I just keep correcting her and I'll remove her from the situation/play group/etc to give her a warning now if she does it once. The next time we have to leave. It stinks but I have to stick with it. I do think it's gotten a little better but she still does sometimes out of nowhere and unprovoked.
