If you did NOT circumcise?
(Not looking for a debate.)
Did you tell your OB before delivering, or is it something that I don't need to bring up until getting to the hospital? We will not be circumcising my DS, due in March, and I'm worried about meeting opposition at the hospital...is this an irrational fear, or are they going to try to pressure us into it?

Nope they asked me in the delivery room...I said no and that was it.
I ended up with a DD though!

If you did NOT circumcise?
My dr asked after recovery. I had a c-section so maybe that why they asked much later.

Re: If you did NOT circumcise?
I was so worried they would try to push us. They never mentioned it. The hospital I delivered in didn't have a nursery so my son was with me the whole time. If your son leaves your sight for any reason it wouldn't hurt to mention it before they take him. I have heard the horror stories of babies being circumcised without permission. I am sure thats rare though.

If you did NOT circumcise?
You have to sign a form to have him circumcised. They will not pressure you into it.

Re: If you did NOT circumcise?
I mentioned it to my OB during one of my last appts and she wrote it in my chart but was also was asked by the nurse after delivery in post partum unit. I swear (not lying) my parents paid off the nurse to ask us again "just to be sure" Other then that no real pressure one way or the other.

I've heard these stories too, which is what had me nervous!
Thanks for the replies everyone!

Re: If you did NOT circumcise?
I told my midwifenin advance we wouldn't be. I was asked by various hospital staff a couple of times after giving birth but not in a pressured way- straightforward to confirm my wishes.

Don't even worry about it. I had it done at my home 8 days later. The drs. respect everyone's wishes.

Re: If you did NOT circumcise?
I told them I was not going to circumcise him right when he was born. They actually came to get him out of my room the following day and asked again if I wanted to and I said no. No questions asked, no eyebrows raised. My delivery nurse said it was becoming more common not to circumcise.

Just be sure you REALLY dont want to do it. If you leave hospital & change your mind, they cant do it until baby is 6 months & they will surely feel more pain at that point. You will have to have baby put under anesthesia. We had both twin boys done without issue

Yes, I've heard that the trend is finally swinging to leave baby boys intact.

If you did NOT circumcise?
I told them when we arrived that we would not circumcise if it was a boy and they said ok. Turns out I has a girl though so I really didn't have to worry

Re: If you did NOT circumcise?
I was asked by the pediatrician when they came around to take him for tests. I has said yes, but they where not able he had a birth defect. But that is when I was asked, it was just in passing did not seem like a big deal either way to them.

Re: If you did NOT circumcise?
They asked me in the hospital and I said no. That was that. I was not met with an ounce of opposition. The rate of circumcision in the United States is only like 60% or something (I forget exactly). So that's close to half of new parents saying no. Leave the country and almost no one does it

My parents and grandparents were kind of shocked but easily swayed with some articles I showed them. It's not that I needed to convince them, I just wanted them to see. Now, believe it or not, my grandma is so anti-circ, it's funny.

My family is Jewish which is why I think our decision was met with opposition. My parents didn't feel satisfied till they spoke with a rabbi about the concern he would not be considered "jewish " if he still had his foreskin (mind you my DH is also not jewish). Apparently the rabbi said that it was acceptable not to have this tradition performed. This is one of the millions of reasons I will never consider myself "religious". If I need to surgically alter my body or the body of a loved one to be accepted into any group/family/religion etc I want nothing do with it. I'm glad my parents were able to come to terms with it even though its really none of their business. Like your experience though I think after doing her own research my mom is also more anti-circ as well now.

That's not because that's when they magically start to feel pain at that point. It's hurts just as bad on day 1 as it does at 6 months.

Re: If you did NOT circumcise?
As long as you know what you want, your OB just needs to be told. We were undecided when DS was born. We talked to our OB about it, and made a decision based on our own feelings and what OB discussed.
