If you could vacation without DC, would you?

DH and I haven't been on vacation since our honeymoon in 2010. DH and I are looking to go away for our 3 year anniversary in September. DS will be 8 months then. My MIL actually brought it up that DH and I should go away and she will watch DS. She said you still need husband and wife time and that the baby will be young enough to not really notice.

I'm torn about it. I don't think I would fully be able to enjoy myself without DS and then at the same time the thought of some sort of alcoholic beverage and the sand in my toes sounds amazing.

What would you do? We already plan on taking DS to Sesame Place next summer when he is about a year and a half.

My husband and I have also been thinking of getting away without the kids as well. We have an offer from my parents to babysit them for a week we just need to find the time to go away that works for everyone's schedules. As for where - I was thinking we might fly to Florida and then take a cruise to the islands. At that point my kids will be 6 and almost 4 years old. We already have a trip planned with them for Disneyland and to visit family in CA.

Yes and you totally deserve it. At that age your DS wouldn't even remember. As long ad you trust your MIL and can easily call her when you want then go and enjoy.
Maybe go for a long weekend or something. Vegas?

DH and I haven't been away alone together for a vaca yet. I went to visit friends in chicago and was so busy it was awesome to be me again. Be able to get ready to go out for dinner and drinks and sit my butt on the couch to vedge.

We are going away in November for a wedding and so looking forward to that.
I think it was tough when DS 1 was younger bc I worked full time I hardly spent time with him and weekends were all I had. Now I work from home part time and have two boys I look forward to time away or even a night with DH. We love it and get to feel like me again.
Go and enjoy!

Eta... The hardest part is the down time like the plane. When you are busy you'll be fine and happy you went.

When my 1st was 8 months- I would NOT have. I wouldn't have been able to leave her.

If I had the chance now- with a 3yr old and a 1yr old- HELL YES!!!

DH and I haven't been away on a real vacation since 2009 and we need one.

We are going on a 7-night cruise in August to celebrate our 40th birthdays and our 10th anniversary. The kids are staying with my parents.

DS will have a blast with grandma! Go & enjoy!

Yes. We don't have any family so we will never be able to vacation together again without DS. Well at least not for 18 years.

I think you should go. DH and I have been away a couple of times without DD. The first time was for our anniversary and DD was 14 months at the time. We went for 4 days instead of a week b/c I didn't want to leave her for too long. But she stayed with my mother in law for 2 days and then my parents for 2 days. She was in good hands and it was so nice to relax. I was a little anxious about it but once we got there I was soooo glad we went. Nice to just spend quality time with DH too which doesn't happen as much after DD was born. If you have someone you can trust to take care your DC I say go for it. You deserve it!

Yep. I deal with those tantrums every.single.day

It's hell. And I'm pretty sure I have a few more years of it until they slow down lol damn girls and their attitudes

Two weeks ago I would have said yes!!

But then DH and I went away for one night and we missed them like crazy.

I think we both agreed that we'll wait till they are older to vacation without them. For now, we'll plan trips around them.

yes and we have. Me and DH went away to Puerto Rico for a week without DD. we missed her sure but we still had a great time!

yes I would. We had a wedding in LV in Sept and left her but only for 2 nights 3 days. It was great. I wish we could have stayed longer.

I was nervous b/c of how she can be (tantrums, moody etc...) and she always with me SAHM, but she didn't even ask about us loved every minute of it, and had no problem leaving one grandparent to go to the other.

I have no problem leaving her for night here and there etc...

I think it's healthy. You need you time as well as hubby time.

I got to go to the spa, and relax. I couldn't drink b/c I am pregnant but that didn't bother me, to much.

At the age your ds will be then, it's perfect. They are usually pretty easy going and with people you trust.

I want to do it again.

we are in the process of booking a long weekend away (leave thurs come back mon) and i am anxious about it for many reasons but we REALLY need it.

I want to.. but I can't.
I have an active mind and it gets dark. I couldn't imagine not having one of us with her at all times. Even when she's with my aunt it sorta rubs at me like a missing limb. But to leave the city away from her would push me into a nervous frenzy.

I envy those who can. Good for you.

I am very happy with planning our vacations around her. Thankfully I only have one so its a lot easier. Plus we were married 5yrs before she was born so we got a lot of travel in. Heck as soon as I found out I was preggo I booked a Vegas Vacation! LOL

We don't have my parents and my inlaws NEVER offer. The most they'll do is 1 night and we have to make them. They've had my 5 year old son maybe 4 times overnight since he was born.

We had a wedding in California in october to go too. I could have gone alone, but we wanted to both go since it was also our anniversary. We asked my inlaws and after some pushing, they agreed. My boys were 4 1/2 and 9 months old.

Yes we missed them. Yes we facetimed them and called often. But we NEVER get to do those things and we NEVER get a break so we took advantage. Every marriage needs some time away as parents to be just husband and wife.

My dh & I have done 4 trips without our boys. 3 of those trips were 5 days & out of the country. We left the boys with my parents whom they are extremely comfortable with. It truly was nice to be alone with just my dh. Let's us rekindle some sparks.
