For those whose #1 priority is the economy, I have a question.
Which of Romney's policies on taxes, jobs, the economy are so great? Honestly. I'd like to hear specifics if possible. What I don't want to hear is "Well, Obama didn't do this or that". This is about ROMNEY's plan, his ideas. Not Obama.
Thanks!
we need specifics from BOTH. If Obama doesn't make changes, we are f*&cked. I am not thrilled with either on economic issues.
But that wasn't my question. I hear or read all the time - the economy sucks and it's Obama's fault so I'm voting for Romney. Well what is so great about Romney's plan that would make you want to vote for him except for the fact that "he's not Obama"?

Here's what I read that summarizes the key points for me. What Obama did wrong and what Romeny's plan is.

Re: I really need to ask this question about Romney's politics...
do we really think Roe V Wade will ever be overturned..i highly doubt it.
My take is that if Romney gets into office he will be way more moderate than conservative.
i think alot of this is just playing on people's fears.

It's hard to say because he tends to say one thing and then he says something else to contradict the first thing he said. It's like, which Mitt will he be?

Honestly though, I cannot even partake in this post bc this is one topic I cannot just politely agree to disagree. They can explain until they are blue in the face, I CANNOT understand the other side of this. Honestly, I can't.

Right, but the threat alone of the potential for its repeal is enough to stop me from voting for Romney. We just don't know what will or will not happen, and I'm taking those odds.
Right, that's YOU (and me) but for others, if they dont see it as a threat at all, it's a non issue.
Absolutely. It's one of those things that just makes you wonder why it isn't.
But why wonder? Why do you care so much about "my" views? I feel like you're (general you're) trying to drag out unpopular opinion so you can attack it. I'm sorry, but that's just how it's coming across to me.
As far as Roe v. Wade, from my perspective, based on my knowledge and professional training, I don't think there is a chance in hell it would be overturned. Nada. Zip. Zilch. So am I going to bother worrying about it? Nope. You (you in general) can think that's silly and naive all you want. But that's my perspective, and in turn, part of the basis for my opinion.

I honestly don't see anything that needs to be reconciled. Not in my mind. You (and Mer, and others) and I are wired differently in that regard, and that's OK.
As far as his comments about women in the workforce/equal pay/ the "binders" - I didn't see anything wrong with that. I wasn't offended, not in the least. Didn't give it a second thought. And that's OK too.
This. They are harping on that binder thing and I think its silly and childish. I have no issue. At least he is trying to acknowledge that he thinks of us as an asset that needs to be addressed.

for me, im more concerned with other issues. when i ask myself am i any better than i was 4 years ago....NO WAY! my husbands salaray was cut due to obama interfering with his industry, im still unemployed, my health ins. has skyrocketed, my house is worth so much less than what i paid for it, gas and other prices are ridiculous.
I can not take another 4 years of obama. I can look past romney's views on women bc i need to worry about my FAMILY and our financial future.
i dont like either candidate, but 4 more years of the same thing just doesnt sit well with me.
Amen! The president doesn't make policy. Altho I agree he does choose supreme court justices. Our congress would have to challange Roe vs Wade. So why then would you don't dump the old buggers THERE?! They to me are more of a threat to women's rights than the man in the oval office.
To the OP, I tried to ask this question very directly with my pro-choice vs politics thing and it went sideways. Someone there understood that most republicans prefer not to have the govt in any part of our personal life and that includes between my legs. its gotten twisted due to tea party and other media fubars but the point is most of us want the govt to just shut up and do their JOBS.

I don't know what is so baffling, sometimes you vote on the issue that impacts you the most (or is the most important to you). I lean towards the Republican party (but still am pro-gay marriage and think we need stricter gun laws) BUT my vote is solely based on the economy.

Don't worry, *I* wont attack you and for me (even though I didnt ask the question) I think it's really interesting to hear that from an attorney's perspective (and dare I say SMART person?) For me, it's more about learning every side and learning their reasoning behind it. I have no problem with people's educated opinions, even if they dont align with mine.

I say the same thing to Liz all the time. You (general you) are very entitled to your opinion and I respect others' opinions, when they are shared thoughtfully, respectfully and intelligently. It may not be my mindset, but I can appreciate that it is yours.

I have a friend that lives in Ohio and she makes a joke that since she moved from NY, politicians care about her views and want her vote.

First of all, I have not and will not attack you for your point of view, nor have I done so on this thread. I am merely curious because it seems like it would be important but I can appreciate that you have your reason. Excuse me for being curious, albeit respectfully, of that.

Thank you That's what I like to hear, and that's how I operate. People harping on quips and posting images created to poke fun at things the candidates have said or done is NOT, for me, learning the reasoning behind their opinions. To me, it's making light of the real issues. I am happy to listen to perspectives of those on the other side, but be serious (and calm) about it! I cannot take anything of value away from other people's viewpoints if they are presented in a manner which is attacking, condescending, or what have you.
While I find all the quips and memes absolutely hilarious, I'd be scared to think that anyone bases their vote around them. Do you think they do?!!
I'll be honest (please dont attack me dems) but I am a staunch Obama supporter and I don't think he handled the pension comment very well by throwing it back to Mitt. That's ok, we can't win them all, but I'm not going to try to twist it.

Federal judges are in for LIFE. So, if he appoints enough anti choice judges, we could see Roe v. Wade overturned WAY after he serves 4 or 8 years and it would still be because of him.

And to me, this is the big difference I guess. We define a) the role of government and b) the parameters of what 'safe' means, differently. I think the government has a role in protecting our rights. I also think being 'safe' includes healthy (healthcare) and safe from infringement of our rights (women's rights, gay marriage, ect.) So I think that it IS important to flesh out these issues and to have a leader who believes they are important and worth protecting.

YES
Protecting our rights is a significant role of government.
This goes way back. Many states would not ratify the Constitution without the Bill of Rights.

With all due resepct, it is WAY more complicated than the appointment of pro-life justices. Also, I am pretty sure that Supreme Court justices have to be approved and are not just unilaterally appointed, no?

Yep yep. Not to mention limiting access to Planned Parenthood and putting thousands of women's lives in danger because they can't get mammograms or pap smears.
