all I can say is Al Sharpton needs to really get something better to do with his time....
What on earth would he have to offer the world if he wasn't preying on the uneducated and uninformed??
His sexy good looks.
Peace and quiet, maybe?

I support the right to PEACEFULLY protest...hope things remain calm
That's all well and good, but when it means it takes me 3 hours to get home after working a 12 hour day .........it's slightly aggravating -
sorry you are aggrivated but it is a fundamental right, IMO, sorry if it inconveniences you. I cannot say I would not be annoyed if it affected my travel but I still support the right

it is very disheartening that the rights that we should all be thankful for are such a nuisance (sp) for some

Re: I heard there is going to be protestors today
Do you think Sharpton realizes that by screwing up people's commute HOME, he is just going to pisss off the people whose support he is HOPING to gain.
Heck, I am not pleased with the verdict, but in this case, I am all for the cops doing whatever they need to do to make sure DH (commuting frmo the 59th street bridge) and I get home safely.

I agree
I think he's going to get more aggravation from people, than support.
And what I don't get is why he stated we WANT people to get arrested.
If you're having a "peaceful" protest, "pray-in" or whatever he's calling it, why would you want people arrested?

Re: I heard there is going to be protestors today
FYI- I want all of you to know. My friend is a cop and she told me that Sharpton pays his protesters $50 a day. This is all about the Bejamins, at least for those under Sharpton's wing. Where are the protestors for the black cop who was shot and killed recently. It makes me sick. All of these race-related riots are fueled by Sharpton, the media and ignorant people.

I'm sure that the people who have the mind to see beyond "getting home late" will understand what he is doing, whether or not they agree with it. The rest will be pizzed because their little commute home was interrupted. wah wah.
And just because someone gets arrested does not mean that they weren't demonstrating peacefully.

I agree that it is crap as well.
Sharpton wants to start trouble. He wants to close down the city. He has said that outright. What kind of right is that???????? Its his right to disrupt everyone else's lives?????
I dont commute (thank god) but if I did, I would be a little more than ****** that I wouldnt be able to get home to my baby at the end of the day.
Sharpton is all about making a mess of things. Most times, the reasons for why hes even doing these things are lost. I honestly dont get the point of it at all.

No one said their purpose was to stop traffic. All she said was she'd like to get home peacefully.
He can protest all he wants.. get a permit and do it in a safe manner. Historically Sharpton hasn't always done both those things....
Why can't he have his LEGAL protest on the great lawn? This way people who don't CHOOSE to be a part of the protest don't have to be. When protests are held in certain areas, a lot of people no longer have a choice whether to be involved or not.. it's inevitable if that's their only way home...

Re: I heard there is going to be protestors today
Honestly, I don't even work in the city BUT I can say that I am more worried about people getting home SAFELY then just at their regular time. This isn't about having a longer commute. It is about a large group of people, who have the right to be ANGRY, being incited to violence by a REVEREND ( oh the irony ). It just is not a safe situation.

what it is is civil disobedience - and while I'm not a fan of sharpton (he's no MLK/Parks or Gandhi/Nehru), I appreciate the historical use of it.
I can imagine the commute home will be aggrevating, but just think of the aggrevation some people had to endure (on both sides) of the Montgomery bus boycott.

Re: I heard there is going to be protestors today
The point is MONEY. The city will eventually pay off the Sean Bell family in a civil suit, in order to get get Sharpton to shut up. Sharpton will then take a huge cut.

Totally serious. Would she like some cheese with her whine?
"Its CRAP that he is protesting to stop traffic" - there you go, she said it.
So if he had a permit, would you be OK with it then? Even if it meant your commute was an hour longer?

Good point...I don't want to be involved in the protest, but I will be FORCED to be part of it when my commute is tripled in duration when I am trying to get home to my 3 month old son before daycare closes. I agree with free speech..scream, yell, sing, but what about MY rights NOT to be involved?

Actually if people are laying on the street blocking traffic, this is more or less a derivative of jaywalking.
Pedestrians are required BY LAW to follow all posted street signs, obey traffic walk signs, and use crosswalks to cross streets.
And jaywalking in NYC is illegal. It carries a fine AND a court date. Disrupting traffic is DEFINITELY illegal.
If you want to protest, do it properly and get a permit.
