I hate fireworks

I seriously HATE fireworks. Many of my residents (kids/ adults with autism) have a severe sensitivity to sound and are miserable. Then in the neighborhood I live in, someone (I don't know who) is obsessed with lighting them all year long. I can barely let my dog out because she so scared. Last night she escaped the yard with me outside with her through a tiny hole in the fence and was missing for 10minutes in this madness. Luckily we found her, terrified but found her. Tonight even worse she won't go out at all. Hiding in her cage. We discovered one of my sons has a hearing sensitivity recently (about a month ago) and is going insane the last 2 days every time a firework goes off he screams bloody murder. I didn't realize it would be this bad until this weekend. I'm exhausted and emotionally drained. I seriously hate fireworks and fee awful for every animal, person with hearing sensitivities and especially veterans with PTSD. I cannot wait for this weekend to be over

My son is terrified of them. Even when we go to Ducks games we have to leave before the fireworks.

I agree!! I hate fireworks so much. My kids can't sleep. I hate how people set them off for days and days, not just on the fourth.

The worst. People on my block have been setting them off for at least a week and often set them off on random days in like, March.

Are they not illegal in Nassau county? I ask because they're illegal in NYC and I remember people getting busted all the time in Queens. It seems to be a free for all around here.

I enjoy a pretty professional fireworks show like at an event. Someplace I chose to go.
I can't stand the ones that just sound like bombs going off in a war zone. I don't get the point of those. What's the point of making pointless noise?

What helps though is we don't have central air so our wall and window AC's make a lot of noise and drown them out or at least dull the noise a lot.

When I was a kid i was terrified of them. I still wont go see a firework show. Luckily where I am in NH. I hear nothing

I will never understand why people set off their own fireworks. It is so so dangerous - you hear stories every year of people losing limbs. Is it really worth the risk?

One of my dogs is horrible with fireworks, she won't go out the whole night!

People should just leave it to the professionals.

My one dog is freaking out. I can't wait for this week to be over.

usually she sleeps with us but last night she spent cowering in her crate.

I'm with you. I do think they are pretty when you go to a professional show but totally unnecessary (and disturbing) when it's done in a neighborhood at all hours of the night & all weekend long.

I know my neighbor will be lighting them off tomorrow and I'm wondering if I call the police, will they actually come and put a stop to it? Our houses are close together in a wooded area. It's really dangerous because of the dry weather and brush everywhere.

FTR. I prefer professional fireworks displays, but fireworks around the 4th of July are commonplace and have been forever. If you don't like them, call the police but you don't be surprised when your neighbors are pissed off at you.

I don't care about pissing my neighbor off by calling the police. I'll call every 15 mins if they don't respond cause F him.

ETA: My neighbor and I are already on bad terms for a slew of reasons.

I like them from a far. I'm glad none of my immediate neighbors light them. But around the block and all over town? They light them for any reason they can think of. kids bday? Weekend off? Shoprite having their Can Can sale? FIREWORKS!

My little dog, he's 11... beside himself every night since the summer began. I have prescription antianxiety meds for him every 8 hours. It's takes the edge off some, but he gets so nuts , I'm afraid he'll have a heart attack. These assholes were setting off M-80s at 9:30 this morning. He's been drugged and in his crate most of the day and night since Friday.

i hate them too..not for myself, as i think they're beautiful, but for all the reasons you've mentioned. my husband is a veteran and my son has spd. our dog can't stand them either and last night a neighbor was lighting them near our yard. this morning we came out the debris from their shenanigans

i wish people would just enjoy the ones set off by the villages and towns, without having to light their own.

It is so obnoxious. My kids are all in bed, and the fireworks are non stop and setting off car alarms. My 2 oldest DC's have camp tomorrow, the last thing I need is them up all night. Like PP have said, the professional ones put on by towns are all well and good. Why the need to be setting them off in front of people's homes all night? It is so inconsiderate.

They have been going off by me for over 2 hours non stop. I assume it's no where near over. My dog is foaming at the mouth and my kids are freaking. I'm so done today

Do people actually drive to other states and drop hundreds of bucks to get these? What is the closest state where you can buy them?

You should see the Grucci quality shit they are setting off for HOURS in my neighborhood. I was just thinking where they get them and how much cash they drop. It's so much.
