She said she lives in the boonies and thats the big news there and all they are talking about.... Well I have the same news as the hamptons and montauck! And still If I don't like it I can change the channel.

Ya know what, you are right, I dont personally know dr phil and maybe he is lovely, but what I see/hear of him I cant stand, the man makes my skin crawl
I dont live in NY anymore, NC and honestly no hard feelings at all, I have not once been offended by anything you have said

My SIL and BIL and their kids were on Judge Jerry. They are arbitrators
And if you lose the case they pay your ruiling.
My SIL and BIL case was filled in small claims court and people who work for the show get a listing of all the cases. they then pick cases that would be good for tv and contact the people

Now you see the benefits of not being a "real" doctor!
I've never cared for him, either. Having his wife at every show concerns me, too. It's great when a wife supports her husband (and vice-versa), but EVERY show? That's when you start wondering why she needs to be there all the time.

Judge Judy is real. She sat in the NY Family Court for years. In fact, the attorneys I worked with in law school (when she got her show) all knew her.
Dr. Phil also bugs me. This whole Brittany thing shows how he puts his career in front of anyone's well being. Its a good thing he's not a real doctor, because he has broken the Hippocratic oath "Never to do deliberate harm to anyone for anyone else's interest."

How could they adjudicate disputes between people in all different states if they were still sitting as judges in one? They wouldn't always have jurisdiction.
Those television shows require the participants to basically agree to arbitration under the particular judge. The judges are NOT currently-elected (or appointed) judges, though most were at some point. They are acting as arbitrators / mediators, deciding the case based on their interpretation of the law, yes, but not as state or federal judges.
ETA - Using the term "judge" loosely. They are NOT judges anymore - they are arbitrators.

Your brother may have been contacted and the findings may be binding, but I ASSURE you that neither Judge Judy, nor any of the other TV judges are currently sitting as elected state or appointed federal judges. As I explained, when you agree to go onthe show, you agree to settle your dispute before the tv "judge" as arbitration.

I'm jumping in late here but am I the ONLY one who likes him? granted I don't get to watch much at all because I'm at work but from the shows I've seen his advice is usually dead on...
I do like him and I'm guessing he doesn't need to get viewers because I believe his ratings are "up" there but I could be wrong...
