I couldn't finish my three hour Glucose test...
I knew I was going to have problems with fasting and not being able to eat. well shortly after i drank the orange stuff, I suddenly felt light headed and began to have tunnel vision. I became disoriented and although I couldn't see or talk, I was still awake and could hear. I just could not respond. I wanted to walk over to the secretary to tell her that I did not feel well, but I was so afraid to fall down. The guy sitting next to me was talking to me and then suddenly asked if I felt okay, to which I was able to nod my head "no." He ran to get the lady working behind the counter. I started crying b/c I was so scared and couldn't get up. Three people had to help me in the back. It was the scariest thing ever, especialy b/c I temporarily lost my sight. I was able to have my blood drawn once, so hopefully that will be enough. Otherwise, they will have to monitor my blood a different way.
DId this happen to anyone else and if so, what was the protocol after?

OMG, how scary!!!!! I'm so glad you're ok now!!!!!
I haven't gone through this wonderful ordeal yet, but this is what I'm very concerned about. I already know that I'm insulin resistant, and even though I'm on meds, I know they're not foolproof...
How did you get home? Was DH there with you?

You know he wasn't. I thought about having him or my mom come with me, because I normally have a hard time with not eating breakfast in general. I drove myself home after I felt better.

On Tuesday. I spoke with the doctor today, they said they will refer me to a nutritionist. Doesn't sound good.

The same thing happened to me last year except it was after the last blood draw. It was a horrible feeling. Thankfully I had DH there with me. Sorry you had to go thru that.

Re: I couldn't finish my three hour Glucose test...
I know the feeling & went through the SAME thing during my 3 hour glucose. Its bad enough we have to fast... we cant eat.. or drink or ANYTHING! THEN they have to draw what seems like every ounce of blood out of your system!! To me, that was tourture & the absolute worst 3 hours I have ever experienced.
I too got dizzy & lightheaded. I thought I was going to pass out too. I managed to walk to my car & rest my head for about 40 minuted before the tech drew more blood from my soul. I felt a little bit better, but not totally. I knew I had to get this test done & couldn't fathom the thought of doing it again so I pushed myself to my fullest to complete it.
I hit up McDonalds so fast after the test.. you wouldn't believe.
I'm so sorry you had an awful experience. Theres got to be a better way I hope next time you feel better. Just try to drink LOTS & LOTS of water the night before the test .

Re: I couldn't finish my three hour Glucose test...
ugh that's scary
I don't know what the protocol is after such an averse reaction, but if it were me, I'd rather be treated for GD than go through such a scary experience again!
(I have GD, and at least for me, it really isn't THAT bad... just a tad of a nuissance to test and plot out your diet)
take it easy this weekend and drink lots of water

Re: I couldn't finish my three hour Glucose test...
My experience with the one hour test was similar but not as extreme. I had the drink and at about 1/2 hour I felt terrible. I felt dizzy and faint and my heart started to race as it sometimes did during my pregnancy. I sat through it but there were times when I was going to tell someone else in the waiting room to help me. Then I passed the one hour with flying colors, not even marginally. My DH thinks it is because my blood sugar went way up with the drink and my body rushed to to bring it down to normal. In a way, he thinks it was a healthy response to what the test put me through.
