I can't take it anymore...called the OB - UPDATED PAGE 2

I've been so sick. I can't even start to tell you how sick. I can't describe what this feels like. Nothing stays down. Nothing at all. I'm now down about 13-14lbs. I can't even tell you the last time I ate a meal that stayed down. I honestly don't even remember.

From 6-8wks or so, I was sick every morning, but I'd be OK by noon. That was bearable.

Now I'm sick all day, every day. I've thrown up 5 times at work today, fainted, and sat on the bathroom floor crying for 5 minutes. I also threw up once at 3:30am, twice at 5:40am, once at 7:45am, and once more on the [left] side of the southern state parkway.

My sister is coming to get me with my DH so he can drive my car home and I'm going to the OB for a shot of something and a Rx.

I'm just concerned about the safety of these anti-nausea meds Chat Icon... I mean, it has to be safer than severe sickness/possible hyperemesis, but how safe is it?

I don't know what's wrong with me - I can't stop crying. I'm sitting here at my desk with wet towels on the back of my neck, sobbing. I hope to God days like these are few and far between. Chat Icon

What can I do? What helps? Ginger ale, crackers, etc - they're done. They do nothing for me anymore. I'm getting desperate. Chat Icon Thank you...

Re: I can't take it anymore...called the OB

oh sweety - i am so truly sorry.

i didn't have m/s - BUT was in the ER not long ago for that horrible stomach virus. They gave me Zofran through the iv - as i was violently wretching and hurting myself in doing so (i had a stabbing pain in my stomach)... It helped IMMENSELY... The safety of it? I would have to think outweighs the risks of being as sick as you are. The ER also gave me a painkiller - but asked if i wanted to take it - because some women don't, etc...but with the Zofran - they were like, we're giving you this....NO OPTIONS.. If there were significant risks - i'd think they would've told me....

i sincerely hope you feel better!!! This will pass....the babies are FINE...they are getting what they need from you....Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I took zofran all throughout my first pregnancy, and other than a little stubborness, spirit and colic, my daughter is perfect. My friend had the same issues as you, started taking zofran and was able to start eating - she took it 4 times a day everyday throughout and she has the most beautiful, healthy, easy baby on earth Chat Icon

Re: I can't take it anymore...called the OB

I have pretty bad m/s. I take zofran and unisom in the morniing and at lunchtime and another Rx at night. The name is escaping me now.

I still feel like I have motion sickness a lot but it keeps me from actually throwing up.

Your OB should be able to put you on something to make this more bareable.

Re: I can't take it anymore...called the OB

#1 - NOTHING is wrong with you.
You're sick and you're exhausted and you're frustrated b/c you can't get any relief - I'd be crying too !! -

#2 - The OB isn't going to give you anything that is not safe for the babies ........Like you said, it's NOT healthy for you or them if you can't keep down any sort of nutrition, and the stress on your body of constantly vomitting, worrying about getting sick, feeling sick, being upset b/c you're sick etc etc. - is not good for you or them either.........

Hope you start to feel better soon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Nicole- I was there!! My doctor put me on Zofran and while it wasnt a miracle drug for me (I was still sick but not nearly as bad as without it) it did allow me to hold down some food throughout the day! I was worried about being on it but my doctor called it a risk-benefit med and highly suggested I go on it!!

My doc did tell me to look on the bright side- that the M/S was a sign of a very healthy pregnancy!

IT WILL GET BETTER- I PROMISE!! I gained back all the weight I lost and now at 33 weeks I'm up 18lbs!! There is a light at the end of the tunnel!!

And remember nothing is wrong with you!! I spent many hours crying on the bathroom flooring, so thankful to be pregnant but wanting the sickness to just end!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ITA-I remember that-she can tell you all about it. Zofran is safer than dehydration or starvation.

Wow, Nic. I'm so sorry, that sounds awful. Have you tried Gatorade or even pedialyte? You need to get something in you(I know you know this already.)

Hope you start to feel better soon.

Re: I can't take it anymore...called the OB

Dont worry about the antinaseau meds .. take them.. you need them if your not getting any nutrients in your body.. that baby needs those nutrients and if this will help you then do it! Im sure the OB wouldnt be doing if it was going to harm your bean. Hope the meds are the relief your looking for!! Chat Icon

Re: I can't take it anymore...called the OB

OH poor thing. As you might know that was me...and I was on medication and it DOES help. It all depends on you, your body and how bad it is.

Both PG's I was on ann infusion pump of Zofran b/c I was still throwing up at least 3-4 times a day on the pills and losing weight fast.

GET the Zofran. It is safe during PG.

And if you start to feel weak you need to go to the ER for hydration. A few IV bags of fluid always had me feeling so much better and the ER knows that.

FM me if you need more advice on meds etc.,

Hang in there!!

also use LEMONS. Smell them, the smell of lemons is an anti nausea. I carried them cut up in a ziploc bag all the time.

Re: I can't take it anymore...called the OB

Chat Icon When I was pg I had HORRIBLE m/s and went to my doc a few times. NOTHING would stay down and EVERYTHING made it worse. I took Phenergan and while it made me tired, I could atleast eat. What my OB said was the baby will take from you what it needs so I shouldn't worry about the baby. I took my Phenergan everyday and strted with water and lemon juice, oatmeal, ginger-ale, coke, and broths. Soon it was better, but I never left home without my meds.

Re: I can't take it anymore...called the OB

I've been there. I remember one day where I threw up 3x before going to class in the morning & then I had to leave class 2x in the first half hour to throw up. I just sat outside the building & cried on the phone with hubby about how I couldn't do it any more.

It is so hard being that sick. You know it's worth it in the end, but that's little comfort after you've thrown up the 5th time that day. I hope whatever the doctor prescribes brings you some relief Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
