Re: I can't take it anymore...called the OB

I guess I have been in a hole somewhere. I didn't even know you were pregnant! Mega congrats to you. Sorry about the m/s. I lost 15lbs in my first trimester because of m/s and lack of appetite. I hope you feel better soon!!

Re: I can't take it anymore...called the OB

I am so sorry your so sick. My SIL was sooo badly ill during the first few months of pregnancy that she had an IV at home with meds. She couldn't keep a thing down also.
Also what helped her was these Ginger candies, or Ginger Tea.
I dont know where she found the candies but I will ask her tonight!
Feel better!

Nic if you are throwing up that violently, and that many times, then take the Zofran if it is offered to you. It is not good for you to be so sick.

Some things that helped me:
-Lemon candy/lemon italian soda (Peligrino makes a nice one)
-Saltines
-Gingerale

Believe it or not also cheddar cheese...but that could just be my unnatural obsession with cheese

It will get better with timeChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I had hyperemesis (severe, but not as severe as Donna) and Zofran did help (not the miracle drug I thought it would be). Trust me, it's safe. I had severe m/s until week 20 and then I felt like a new woman.

Re: I can't take it anymore...called the OB

I also had terrible morning sickness in the 1st trimester. The anti-nausea meds didn't work for me. Hopefully they will have a better effect on you.

Hang in there!

There were many times I resented DH and the baby because I felt so sick. Now I'm in the home stretch but unfortunately still suffering from nausea.

First of all, I wanted to say congratulations!! You "came out" while I was MIA from LIF with pneumonia. So, a belated congratulations to you!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Second, I absolutely feel your pain. When I was pregnant with Nicholas, I lost 45 lbs. I didn't eat for 9 monthys. Thinking about food, seeing a commercial with food...ANYTHING...made me vomit. I LIVED on tootsie rolls and chocolate nips. It was ALL I could stomach.

I was nauseous until the moment he was born...seriously.

I cried everyday. It's a MISERABLE feeling, and you feel there is no end. I honestly know how you feel.

At one point my OB suggested I have a McDonald's vanilla shake everyday, just for the calories and calcium alone. I did that for a while....I couldn't handle much else.

My advice is find the ONE thing you enjoy. It might take a while to find it. Then eat that until you can't eat it anymore, then move on to something else.

I never took any medications because I was afraid of side effects. I basically just dealt with the contant puking, everyday, for 9 months.

Nicholas was born healthy as can be. The doctor said the baby will take from me what he needs...but I would be a mess. And boy wasn't that the truth.

Oh...my 2nd pregnancy was a little better...I only lost about 25 lbs. Chat Icon

Good luck, Nicole!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I can't take it anymore...called the OB

Hey Nic Chat Icon

PLEASE don't worry about taking something for the m/s. It's going to help you feel like a new person.

If it makes you feel any better...I was one of those moms who was DETERMINED to have a drug-free pregnancy. Other than my Synthroid and my Metformin, I wasn't going to take anything unless it was regular-strength Tylenol.

In the end, I wound up on Zofran for the entire pregnancy. I also wound up on anti-vertigo meds because one morning in my 2nd trimester, the room started spinning and would not stop.

Then, the ruptured disc in my back was so excruciatingly painful that I had to be on HEAVY doses of Vicodin for the last 23 weeks of my pregnancy.

I'm not saying this to condone taking so many meds during the pregnancy, but I want you to know that it's quite possible that I have the most healthy, wonderful, well-adjusted baby in the entire world. 3 days home from the hospital, she was practically sleeping through the night, has been given the all-clear by the peds, and is breastfeeding and gaining weight like a champ.

Please do whatever it takes to make yourself feel better. You went through a lot to get here--now you deserve to be able to ENJOY it!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I can't take it anymore...called the OB

OH! One other thing:

None of the "home remedies" ever worked for me as far as controlling the nausea and vomiting. But while I was having my c-section, I started to feel EXTREMELY nauseous and knew I was going to throw up right there on the table. The anesthesiologist's assistant put a pad with rubbing alcohol over my nose, and it was the most amazing thing. While the smell was NOT pleasant, the nausea vanished almost instantly. Just in case you want to try something in the interim. Chat Icon

I'm sorry, Shorty!!!! Chat Icon
It's such a horrible feeling. Don't feel bad about taking the Zofran... so many women do and have very healthy, happy babies. My SIL had m/s with her twins from the beginning of her pregnancy until she delivered them. She took Zofran (it did help alot, and while it didnt make it go away, it made life so much more bearable), and her boys are now very healthy, very happy 4 year olds!

Do what you have to do to get through this, but try not to make it harder on yourself by having self doubt or feeling guilty... you're doing the best possible for those babies! Chat Icon

You poor baby! My friend had this with both her pregancies and she was miserable.

My DD took Zofran a few months ago when she could not stop vomiting from the stomach flu. She wasn't even two yet. I think your un-born babies would be okChat Icon

Re: I can't take it anymore...called the OB - UPDATED pg 2

Thanks everyone Chat Icon

I saw the Dr tonight, and everything looks great with the babies. She chalked the crazy sickness up to having twice the hormones in me. She also joked with DH that they're going to be 2 hormonal little girls Chat Icon Chat Icon.

Cervix looks good, uterus is measuring on the large side for 9wks (2 growing babies! and/or I may be further along than I calculated), and aside from some ketones in my urine, all was fine there too. She said that with as sick as I've been, the ketones in the urine are just proving my claim. Not many though, so not too concerned. She said I definitely came in at the right time though, because I was headed for some severe hyperemesis had I not sought meds.

She prescribed me Zofran and also administered some in the office... OMG, that stuff is SO EXPENSIVE!!! I have the generic dissolving tablets and 60 pills cost me $180. And I have a great drug plan! Out of curiosity, I asked how much it costs private pay and was told $2780.00!!! OH MY GOD!!!

I just took my first one and they are pretty gross...I hope I don't throw these up too.

Otherwise she said I'm doing everything right...the citrus in water is great, the sea bands help, ginger ale, etc.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Thank you for the support, ladies. I was so upset before...so scared that something was wrong. I think I had this irrational fear of vomiting up a baby or something. Chat Icon I hope things only go up from here.

OH poor thing. As you might know that was me...and I was on medication and it DOES help. It all depends on you, your body and how bad it is.

Both PG's I was on ann infusion pump of Zofran b/c I was still throwing up at least 3-4 times a day on the pills and losing weight fast.

GET the Zofran. It is safe during PG.

And if you start to feel weak you need to go to the ER for hydration. A few IV bags of fluid always had me feeling so much better and the ER knows that.

FM me if you need more advice on meds etc.,

Hang in there!!

I agree with everything that Donna saysChat Icon Chat Icon

I've been there too, I used to have to puke in my garbage can at work b/c I couldn't make it to the bathroom and that was WAAAYYY past 12 weeks.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Grilled cheese, bagels, drink soda if you can keep it down. My OB told me all of those "rules" go out the window when you are lke this!!

As for taking Zofran/Reglan, they are safe. Trust me, I didn't want to take ANYTHING and my OB made me bring my DH (I was 13 weeks and had lost 13lbs so far) and told him that I'd be in the hospital for the rest of my pregnancy if he didn't make me take the pills, so I did. They are NOT a cure all. I was still sick, but I managed betterChat Icon Chat Icon

I only gained 3lbs my entire pregnancy, but my DS is 100% fineChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Your pills sound awfully expensive! The pharmacy gave me the generic version and it cost me $10 for 60 pills.

I hope the zofran works for you. Chat Icon

I was just telling DH how I should be rewarded for all my pain and suffering. He was like, "are you going to sue the baby?" I told him I should sue him for knocking me up!

Glad you got to the OB, like Donna and Katedevine, I was on Zofran via IV 24 hours a day and both kids are perfect. If you don't feel any relief with the pills or throw them up, call your OB asap and let her know. I pray that you get better!!!

Congrats again!
