Re: I absolutely HATE car shopping

If you are a Costco member, see if the kind of car you are looking for is part of their auto buying program. The dealers they work with give you a great price without the BS. If you really want to, you can then take the Costco price as a bargaining chip to any dealer. I used to LOVE car shopping! I wheeling and dealing... I got accused of being a bad ass lawyer everytime but after becoming a mom, I have mellowed out too much for that.

Wow.so informative, you guys are the best.
I was wondering about the MSRP, how do I negotiate below that? and just add what I specifically want like sunroof and leather seats. Im content using my tomtom Chat Icon and not into all the other fancy addons.

The other question I had is how do I know what features are included in that msrp when for example I go to Toyota's website and see the Sequoia for msrp 44,095?
How do I find the base price to build on and dont they mark up the addon prices at the dealership?

They gobble me up as a single woman with no-one to go with me.

Thanks.

Would you go to a dealer who just tells you the price, turns the computer screen towards you, and never leaves to "talk to the manager?" We love our dealer. No guesswork, no gimmicks and you leave happy. Always.

This is how it was when I just got a new car, another family member has gotten their last 3 cars from this person. It was the least stressful car buying process I ever had! It's a Nissan dealership if you are interested .

Would you mind letting me know what dealership and sales person this is?

Thank you.

I only deal online. If they do not give me a price online I tell them don't bother someone else will. They always give me something. I then wheel & deal through email from there. Just got a new Explorer last month, and I wound up with the sweetest dealer ever. I didn't know they existed lol

how or who have you dealt with?

i've tried doing things over email or online and no one gets back to me. Chat Icon

Of course, Great Neck Nissan on Northern Blvd in Great Neck. I dealt with Stacey Barron who is the GM. FM me if you want more details, and I can find her direct number in the meantime.

Re: I absolutely HATE car shopping

I just walk out. The second they start with that bullshyt game of running back and forth to their manager I walk out.
I don't deal with it. They need ME more than I need them.
Last 2 times I bought cars I found dealers who wrote down a number, ONE number, and said- go shop it around. You won't find it lower.
And I didn't.

Re: I absolutely HATE car shopping

You need to go into the dealership on a mission.

A. I'm interested in cars A & B I don't want a pre owned and I don't want to lease - and these are my MUST HAVES - I'm not willing to compromise on ...........what have you got?

B. You have to be willing to walk out the door. Even when you're exhausted and just don't want to deal w/ the BS anymore, you have to have the attitude like "I don't need THIS car" I can go and buy any freakin' car I want at one of the other 500 dealerships in a 50 miles radius

And prep yourself for the inevitable jackass

What are you looking at?

ETA - Also, it's been my experience to NEVER tell them what your budget is. Like, EVER.
That's the first question they ask. When we bought my new car last summer I was trading in a Toyota Corolla - for a BMW or Audi - They looked at me like W T F ??? - I didn't give a crap - I liked my Corolla - Chat Icon
And I could well afford the 'luxury' car, or I wouldn't have been in the dealership to buy it in the first place -

They kept trying to put me into a BMW w/ 'leatherette' seats, bare bones a lease, blah blah constantly running around the numbers of my so called monthly payment ..........I finally just told the guy "Look, we're both in finance, you can talk and write and type on your calculator as fast as you want - it doesn't change the fact that your numbers don't make any sense, I DON'T want to lease this car, and I'm there's no way in hell I"m spending $60k on pleather seats and a bare bones car that has nothing special but the little empblem on the hood - !!" ..........
That was @ BMW, we endedup w/ the Audi b/c they were no BS, the prices basically is what it is w/o much back and forth - and the cars are basically standard fully loaded. - Acura is like this as well ........

I got the new A4 b/c I'm most comfortable in a smaller car (hence, the corolla) . ......I had to wait forever for it - but I LOVE it.
I also had to talk DH out of the BMW, but once he drove the Audi on a longer trip he was sold too

It's the worst thing every. God forbid you aren't ready to sign on the dotted line after your first test ride. If you are interested in Jeeps, Dodge or Chrysler I highly recommend Jeep of Wantagh/Merrick. I found those guys to be very honest, no games, no BS.

I also hate car shopping!! DH and I went this weekend...think we are going to get the acadia. GM of great neck was horrible had us wait there 20 mins just to quote us an outrageous number!
We ended up at another dealership with a quote of 39 month lease, zero down sign and drive, $400 a month with 15k miles per year for the acadia sle with all wheel drive- bench no captains seats.

Is this a good deal??

Thanks everyone for the replies. According to Tru Car I was able to get an "unusually low price" so that is great. Now to Deal with the finance guy tonight and tell them "NO" to every product they try to sell to me. HAHA!

Good luck to everyone in the market who has to swim with these sharks! It is exhausting!

Do your research, walk into the dealer armed, locked and loaded.

I have an Enclave with Captains chairs and leather, Nav/back-up camera and pay less than that per month. I did my lease 18 months ago, so the time you lease and the incentives available will play a role in your cost. What dealership for those numbers?

Good girl! Hope you get a great deal!

I did my research ahead of time and did my own negotiating. I got a very good deal on my new car, which I leased. Leases prices have to be negotiated in exactly the same manner as a sale, or you are paying too much, plus you need to know about any incentives being offered, the money rate (%) and the car's residual value at the end of the lease. Dealers do not expect women to understand those details. They are astonished when they realize we do :)

The car I just bought was through John Fanucci from Hassett Ford. He was the sweetest man ever. I also bought from Brad Reda at Sunrise Toyota. The Ford I had before this one was from Manhattan. They gave the best deal. Dealers who do not work with me online never hear from me again, and I tell them that straight up. i can't be bothered going in and out of dealerships. There are sales people out there who will work with you online. You just have to be firm with what you want from the getgo

Re: I absolutely HATE car shopping

i know it's far for those on LI...

i bought my current new-to-me car from Mike Piazza Honda in PA (forgetting the city, but they're close to Sesame Place).

they are an AMAZING bunch of guys. they did what needed to be done to get me a vehicle i could afford and one i wanted.

maybe it might be worth the drive if they treat you like a human being.

good luck.

Go to the GM website and go to "build your vehicle" including paint color. It will spit out the wholesale or invoice price. Compare it to what they quoted you.

MSRP is full retail. Don't pay attention to that number. The dealer who is willing to make the least on you (because they sell volume) is the winner.
Yes, that sounds good but I don't know which packages/trim that acadia comes with. Just double check it and make sure the dealership is coming in close to the wholesale price.

Also, if you're leasing, the residual percentages make a big big difference in your monthly payment, and these change often. That's why you can't always compare to the price your friend got "last year" or something...
