I absolutely HATE car shopping
Time for me to get a new car, trying to do some legwork online or via email. It is IMPOSSIBLE. They all want to run you over with their speals. why is it such a horrible process???? I just want to talk to someone NORMAL, that listens, and does not put so much pressure on you. UGHHHHH
I hate them, just venting.

I absolutely HATE car shopping
We got a new car two weeks ago and drove away with it same day. It helped that we knew what we wanted though. We went in and handed them the VIN of a car they had in stock from the website, gave them a print out from the dealer's site of what our trade in value should be, and told them if we could get a certain price we would buy that day. We had the car 5 hours later!

It is only easy if you have a specific thing in mind and its a lot easier if you are willing to walk out.
I buy rarely. Next year we will get a new vehicle (used but new to us) and it will be 10 YEARS since we'd done it. I'm prepping NOW! LOL

I absolutely HATE car shopping
I work in the business and hate buying too. Ive basically sold myself my last 2 cars because I dont want to deal with anyone lol. Hubby wants a car now from a model line that I dont work for so thank god I know somebody at the dealership were going through. The salespeople are relentless though. We went on truecar to get a price cert and Ive gotten no joke like 15 phone calls from 3 different dealerships even after ive told them i work in the biz and am already dealing with a certain salesperson. Its very frustrating.

caught them red handed but if DH wasn't so good with numbers, we would have never picked up on it! After 5 calls and them not having a "manager" available, we went down there and wouldn't leave until they admitted it and reversed the extra 1500 for a warranty we told them no to

Re: I absolutely HATE car shopping
I used to hate car buying too but found 2 great ways of buying my last 2 cars.
The first car I purchase 3 years ago, I went on edmunds.com and did comparison shopping to find the lowest price on the exact car I wanted. Afterwards I called the Internet Sales dept from the dealership and did all the paperwork online. The dealership was about 1 hour from me but was willing to drive the new car to me the next day!
For the 2nd car i found a great dealership that sells the car brand I wanted. The dealership is highly recommended by many customers so I just went in one day for a test drive and they ordered me the exact car I wanted for a price that was even lower than what was quoted.

I only deal online. If they do not give me a price online I tell them don't bother someone else will. They always give me something. I then wheel & deal through email from there. Just got a new Explorer last month, and I wound up with the sweetest dealer ever. I didn't know they existed lol

Re: I absolutely HATE car shopping
We recently bought 2 new cars, a bmw and VW. I did all my research on KBB, you can see the invoice price, any incentives. Like someone else said I knew what models they had on lot (VW) and knew exact car I was negotiating and what options it had. We left with that car same day. The bmw we ordered.

TrueCar is usually invoice on the car, which is generally the lowest they will sell the car for. If youve gotten your own financing just have the bank add tax into the price that printed on the true car cert and use that check. You would just have to pay the DMV and whatever accessories/aftersale you purchase at the dealership.

I hated it too. I felt like every time I went, they didn't listen to a word I said and just tried to pressure me into a car. I knew what I wanted off the bat but I checked other places just to see different options. I was so happy when it was over - best of luck to you!! When you get to drive away in a new car it will all have been worth it!

I hate it too. We did Truecar because we really didn't want to negotiate. Maybe we could have gotten a bit cheaper, but we didn't want the headache. Then we had to listen to the finance guy pitch us stuff too. We had DD with us and she was fussy in the finance office, but he just kept pitching us. Then he acted all insulted and was hurrying us when I'm was checking the numbers on the finance contract before signing.

I hate it too, I don't understand why it had to be that way at all.I'm a calm, normal, quiet licensed professional but have lost it, making a scene and everything only at car dealerships, it just pushes the limits for me. The games, the lies, the tricks.shame on them.

Would you go to a dealer who just tells you the price, turns the computer screen towards you, and never leaves to "talk to the manager?" We love our dealer. No guesswork, no gimmicks and you leave happy. Always.

I absolutely HATE car shopping
The first thing is not to be emotionally involved or attached to the vehicle. Be prepared to walk away and do it if you feel insulted or like you're being jerked around etc. We had initially looked into buying a Nissan after test driving a bunch of models. We ended up buying a Kia instead of the Nissan and I still walked out of the dealership twice because they wouldn't come down on pricing or add in certain things we wanted... in the end, we met in the middle and I got the car and am still happy 4 years later. But, because I wasn't emotionally invested and didn't have my heart set on any one particular make or model I had the power in my hands. Slimy salespeople depend on you falling in love with a vehicle to maximize their profit.
Next, don't let them do the 4 squares with you. Get pre approved if you can and know your max purchase price. Never go over your set amount because they can extend it out longer or "get you a better rate". NEVER buy a car because it's only X per month because they'll give you X for your trade or have you put Y down... They will play the squares to sell you a car for more money than it is worth because you're looking to stay in a specific budget. http://www.realcartips.com/cardealers/211-4-square-method.shtml
Get pricing from Truecar (when we did it, it was called Zag) and go in with written quotes (with VINs if possible) showing make, model #, options/packages etc to bargain with from local competitors if you really want to bargain.
Check your paperwork CAREFULLY!!!!!!!!!! When we bought our last car, we walked out of Smithtown Nissan after agreeing to a price because they tried to use fuzzy math to add the amount we negotiated off back into the price in another section. They lost the sale because of it.
Check dealer inventory whenever you can. We were told by Garden City Nissan they had the trim level we wanted IN STOCK and to come down, we went down, not only did they not have the trim level we wanted, they didn't even have the MODEL in stock. It was a waste of 4 hours.

Re: I absolutely HATE car shopping
I just bought a new used car about two weeks ago. Tue guy I round up buying from was super easy going and never harassed me. I had other dealerships calling me relentlessly with cars that we're not what I very specifically told then I was looking for. It was very annoying.

Paul Conte Chevrolet. His name is George Frouxides. "uncle George" to my kids.
This is how car shopping should be. No guesswork!

I absolutely HATE car shopping
When you show up with paperwork telling you the wholesale price of the car, a dealer should tell you how much above that price they will be earning. That's their basic platform these days.
For example, I build my dream car on the GM website. From scratch! Color, wheels, everything. Just go to the mfr website. Then, It prints out a wholesale price- nothing hidden. This is what the dealership pays for it. Basically, they have to tell you "we get $800 above 'tissue' " which is the wholesale price. If you don't like it, you have to go to another dealership.
The internet has changed car buying because it makes you informed. While they can't give you a car for wholesale, they shouldn't be making $4000 on you either. If you show up with paperwork, there's no more guessing games or going to talk to managers, etc. ETA: make sure you build your car online witih the options you want, and make sure they price it with those options. Or without, so you can compare apples to apples.
I am not sure if all dealerships work like this. When DH bought a Cadillac, they tried "going to talk to a manager". He went to a manager, explained that it didn't work for him and that he needed to see the numbers on the screen. He didn't care if they needed to make $2000 on him, he just wanted real numbers. They were great!

This is how it was when I just got a new car, another family member has gotten their last 3 cars from this person. It was the least stressful car buying process I ever had! It's a Nissan dealership if you are interested .

Do your homework first on edmunds.com
I used Truecar for a Prius and saved $1,100 for my DH over the dealers best price in January, but I know I did better on my own when I leased a BMW recently after educating myself on the edmunds forums. It is worth the effort.
