Hysterosalpingogram
Ok.... my OB just freaked me out.
He is agreeing that I need to see a RE and I have an appt with RS of NY. He said my first steps there are bloodwork, sperm analysis, and a hysterosalpingogram to check my tubes. He said this is different than a saline/sonogram test that OB's do-- that it is only done by a radiologist and that they would be putting the speculum in and doing everything. Am I nuts to be nervous about this??? I thought it was a RE/OB GYN doing the procedure with a radiologist local to take the radiographs.. now I am panicking!

Re: Hysterosalpingogram
I would try not to freak out until you talk to the RE. Just b/c your OB said that's the test you need does not mean the RE will agree. Go to them and see what they say. Definitely express your concern about the test and see if there's other things they can do first.

Hysterosalpingogram
I just had this done by Dr Palter from Gold Coast and he performed the HSG himself at at outside radiologist facility. I'm not sure if this is the norm though

Hysterosalpingogram
I had one done at North Shore last year. I had a doctor, a nurse and a radiologist all in the room while it was done. I would talk to your RE about it and let them know if you have any concerns.

HSG's and SA's are the first tests that an RE will order plus all the bloodwork to help diagnose your issue...I had mine done at a radiologist office but there was a dr. present...dont freak out its completely normal.

Re: Hysterosalpingogram
I had mine done during my laporoscopy in the hospital. I was under general anesthesia and have no idea who did it or who was in the room! I'm no help with that.
But I do know that is most likely one of the first tests the RE will have you do.

Re: Hysterosalpingogram
I had mine at Zwanger Persiri and it was fine. It will only really hurt if there's a blockage and can even increase your chances of conceiving for the 3 cycles following the procedure by 25%

I am def worried of the pain bc I am a wimp.. but more worried that it's a radiologist looking up my hooha and putting instruments up there! I should be used to eyes down there after already giving birth but it's making me nervous. I guess I will talk to the RE about it :/

Re: Hysterosalpingogram
I was nervous about the results more than the pain. It's the speculum that I hate. Before I knew it, the test was over. Mine was done in nyc but he was the most gentle, kind person and I would absolutely use him again if I Neded to.

Do you get the results immediately?? I really don't want to have to wait too long.

Re: Hysterosalpingogram
I had one done over the summer. It is very uncomfortable and may cause brief pain if there is any blockage. Fear was the worst part for me. I did have some pain, but it was such a quick test that I think I was psyching myself out more than the test itself.
Think happy thoughts... I've read you can be more fertile after this test.

Re: Hysterosalpingogram
I had one done back in March at Zwanger. I was such a nervous wreck and didn't even want to go but I needed to know if my tubes were blocked. The nurse explained the whole test and how it is performed. It's a very quick test. It's uncomfortable and you will feel a little bit of pain if there is a blockage. For me my Right tube was blocked. After the test is over the radiologist will go over the test with you and show you on the screen how the dye spills into the uterus.
Don't freak out!! Just deep breathes..It's over under 5 mins!!

Thank you! When you found out your tube was blocked, what was your next step? Did they do the cannulation to your closed tube?

That's what my OB said! He said something about the alcohol in the dye cleansing the uterus and making the area more fertile.

The radiologist you'll go to will be one who does this so it's not like he's any different from a gyno or an RE. Plus, trust me on this, once you start seeing an RE you're going to get really used to everyone looking up your hooha. It literally became so routine with all of the monitoring I had.
But first - don't worry about any tests yet. Talk to your RE before you schedule tests b/c the RE may not agree with the OB. I didn't have an HSG right away. We tried 2 IUIs first. But then I had an HSG and got pg that cycle. For me, it was painful, but the cramps went away within 45 minutes...and 2 weeks later I got a BFP. So I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat!

Thank you I'll sit tight and relax until I speak to the RE next week. I was trying to get in earlier but didn't realize RS of NY in mineola does not have am hours which are preferable for me. So I had to wait a few weeks out for an evening :/

Thanks for asking this question! I have a first RE appointment next week as well. I was wondering about this test as well. I hear it takes place CD 5-10. I'm sure the RE will do bloodwork first and then go from there. Good luck!

Sorry I doni't have much to add to the OP but had to LoL at the link to the other story. So funny! This hits close to home, too. While it's a lot less personal, I get this EVERY time I go to the eye doctor since I was a little kid. My mother was so embarrassed to take me because every time he'd get close to my eye with either his headband light or a hand held I would burst out laughing and have to move away. Something about him being that close to my face and his face looking funny up close. To this day I can't...I don't even go anymore because of it!
