People who price gouge should be locked up. Cases of water on Amazon are $25+. Where we used to live in FL people Are selling cases of water for $25-$50. Disgusting.

I heard this is happening with gas too. Just read that Florida attorney general has activated a price-gouging hotline where people can call to report price gouging incidents. Hopefully this will help.

We're actually in T&C right now, our departure flight to get back home is for Thursday at 3:30pm, the hurricane is suppose to hit the island by Friday but as a precaution, there's a tentative suspension for flights starting tomorrow. We just got an alert from JetBlue saying they've just added another flight for tomorrow and if we want, we can change flights at no extra cost. We can't really do anything til the latest update which will be at 6am, we're hoping this hurricane weakens and changes routes towards open waters and we really prey and hope these beautiful islands don't get hit Chat Icon

Omg, please take the earlier flight! There is no reason to take the chance.

Definitely get out if you can - you don't know what type of damage the storm will do and you might not be able to get off the island for a while if there's damage to the airport!

I think I got lucky by buying yesterday morning. Was able to get cases of Fiji water for cheap - cheaper than Poland Spring, which was about $15/case. I didn't care what I got, I just went for the cheapest that could get there in time.

It may not be Amazon selling at those prices - it may be through a different seller on Amazon. Amazon actually had the lowest prices on water, batteries, protein bars and had some solar chargers for super cheap.

Usually third party sellers are the culprits of this, not Amazon itself. I would report the listing to Amazon directly

Yes - and don't wait for the update. I'm sure that people are jumping at the chance to get on that plane.

My mom never leaves. She said a bunch of her neighbors are staying too (she's in Rockledge which is near Melbourne/Cocoa Beach - so right in the pathway).

I asked her what's the strongest one she's been thru and she said Cat 3. They have a generator and stay to empty the pool so it doesn't overflow into the house. I'm guessing that's going to be the least of her worries with a Cat 4. :( On the plus side, her house is relatively newer (about 15 yrs) so she has all the hurricane shutters already installed for windows.

I have family near Orlando. They are older and refuse to leave. They didn't really stock up on food/supplies either. Chat Icon Chat Icon
Their house is only a few years old and doesn't have hurricane shutters either, ugh.

Praying this thing goes out to sea!!!

It will be absolutely foolish not to take the earlier flight.

Just saw there hasn't been any communication from Barbuda since it hit. Scary stuff.

We have friend in western Puerto Rico who owns a horseback riding business. So glad it seems to be slightly off the northeastern coast. Hopefully they will be spared.

I lived in Palm Bay, just a little south of her, for a few years and we had a Cat 2 while living there, it was SO scary. It sounded like our building was being ripped apart, palm trees were bent completely over, insane rain, and howling winds. Frightening, And that was only a Cat 2. Literally cannot imagine sticking around for anything worse.

Oh believe me, we tried, especially to find out times and more info because it was an automatic system that called initially. By the time my husband called to get more info about the flights, all seats were taken! We're trying to gather everything together to be as safe as possible and everyone around us is doing the same, flights haven't cancelled and the airport hasn't close yet, our guess is because these hurricanes are so unpredictable that airlines/airports won't do anything about it til later on, closer to the hurricane?!?

Hurricane Irma

We are in s Florida east coast, directly in it's path. Sure we have supplies and water and shutters are going up. I'm not worried too much about that. What's scary is it's supposed to hit Sunday night during the night, scared of roof being ripped off, or tornadoes that spin off from the hurricane. Pray that it continues an easterly shift to Atlantic to spare us devastation.

Re: Hurricane Irma

The eye just passed over the Virgin Islands. Holy $hit the destruction from what snippets of video I have seen.
The cell towers on St. John were taken down to preserve them, rather than having them ripped down by the winds, so we can't communicate with many of our friends on the island.
Praying that everyone remains safe.

My in laws are in Palm Coast, on the east coast, with a house on the water. They are evacuating and going to the high school. They are less than 6 feet above sea level with a dock in the backyard. They don't want to go, but I think we have convinced them to.
