By complaining to the principal would your son get a reputation as a tattle?

R u serious? He's 6. He can't even defend himself.

You have no idea how much I thought about this before I sent the email.

My train of thought was that this teasing was towards a group of 1st graders, not just my son so both groups would be addressed. Hopefully anonymously.

I emailed the principal and she got back to right away, I couldn't believe how fast she responded. After everything was said and done the vice principal called me personally to explain how things were handled and to thank me for bringing it to their attention. I appreciated the follow up.

I didn't want to be "that parent" either BUT I felt like I had to worry more about what was best for my DD than being "that parent". I am so glad I said something, it was the right thing to do and there were never issues again.

I'm glad to see this update. Has it still been better since then? I think this was the right approach. I wouldn't have ignored the problem AT ALL. When my child is hurt, Mama Bear takes over!! Personally, I would have approached the school about it first and if it wasn't taken care of how I see fit, then I'd go straight to the parents. As a parent myself, I WANT to know if my child is bullying. Hell no. Being a bully is just as bad as getting bully and I won't put up with it. I guess not every parent is as attentive, maybe some don't care, but I would speak to them kindly about it just in case they DO give a damn what they're child is up to. All of that said, if my child seriously did not want to ride the school bus, I'd drive them. lol. I mean if you're at home anyhow and it's close enough, why the heck not? But in that case I'd only do one or the other (pick up or drop off, not both) only because I'd want my kid to still be used to the bus since I wouldn't necessarily be able to drive them the rest of their school career. lol.

I wasn't the OP with the issue but in my case, the school handled it right away and it's NEVER been an issue again. Chat Icon

Oh, pregnancy brain. I thought this was an update from OP and I was so glad it worked out (and wondered why people kept giving advice after everything seemed to have already been solved. lmao). Well, good advice either way. I hope the OP takes it and talks to school.
