How would you feel about a Wedding on Halloween? Update
Just found out DH's good friend is getting married on Halloween next year. It's a Friday and wedding is at 4 or 5. Dh is in the wedding.
I'm kind of bummed that I will miss Halloween with my kids. Am I being silly?
Update: Dh said his friend wants DS to be a ringbearer..guess no trick or treating for him. :(

I'd feel the same way as you! Can you skip the ceremony and meet up w/ DH at the reception. Honestly, I think that's what I'd do so I could still take the kids Trick or Treating.

My wedding was on halloween. People were pissed. Honestly we didn't really think people would care THAT much, especially because it was a sat and people could trick or treat in the morning.

Re: How would you feel about a Wedding on Halloween?
I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of anyone planning parties, weddings, birthdays, etc on ANY holiday..........even Halloween. Holidays are a big deal to me, they are a time for my kids and family and I truly find inconsiderate of people to plan their event on a holiday. I think it's selfish to not consider your guests and the impact it would have on them if they have to attend a function on a holiday. Just my two cents.
ETA - To answer the OP...........yes, I would be upset to miss Halloween time with my kids.

My comment wasn't directed at you but I know many people who have had the attitude of "It's my day and I want what I want no matter what". I just think when planning any event it is always good etiquette to consider the people you're inviting. I don't want bitter pissed off people at my party. Just how I feel about it.

You just said yourself, your guests were pissed. You just proved my point. That's exactly why I think it's a better idea to steer clear of planning anything on an actual holiday..........I think it's inevitable to have backlash.

I don't think Id care too much - as someone suggested I'd probably take the kids trick or treating and go to the reception later

I wouldn't care, but I don't think of Halloween as a "real" holiday. The only holidays that would make me angry would be Christmas Eve or day, Thanksgiving, or Easter Sunday. My kids are still little, and this is the first year we will be trick or treating. So maybe my opinion would be different next year, but for me, personally, DH & I would not see the big deal.

How would you feel about a Wedding on Halloween?
My friend originally planned her wedding on mother's day. It was going to be my first mothers day too. I was annoyed. She called off the wedding before the day, but I too am not a fan of weddings, showers, or birthday parties on holidays where I am going to want to celebrate with my family.

I don't know if I'd be pissed, but I wouldn't be happy about missing trick or treating with my kids. I'd probably meet up with DH at the reception like a previous poster said.

I wouldn't mind, I guess I am in the minority. We take DD trick or treating for an hour max, I hate traipsing all over the neighborhood and don't like her to have to much candy anyway. We aren't big Halloween people.

How would you feel about a Wedding on Halloween?
I went to a wedding on halloween a few years ago and never thought much of it. Once DD is old enough to enjoy trick or treating, I would probably be bummed like you are. I would definitely make a point to find some kind of halloween festival or event a different day so that the kids can dress up and you can enjoy it with them!

I personally would skip the ceremony part if it meant being with my children. Halloween is just below getting married at 7 am on Christmas morning

Re: How would you feel about a Wedding on Halloween?
Honestly, I would think it important to consult most of the immediate family/friends first before choosing a day to ensure they are going to be okay with it.
After that, if they're cool, go for it.
I have an almost 5-year-old and I think there are plenty of alternative ways for him to get his Halloween on and DH & I could still go out later to a wedding/reception.
We took him out last year basically on our block and will do that again this year, as soon as we get home from work.
I am sure he will go around even earlier in my MIL's neighborhood.
As an aside, we had our wedding over Columbus Day weekend. It was held Upstate and most of our guests raved about it because they came from LI and NYC and got to enjoy the leaves and local attractions, in addition to the wedding.

Re: How would you feel about a Wedding on Halloween?
I'd love it because normally we don't do anything too exciting for Halloween so I think it would be really fun to have somewhere to go.
But I could see being annoyed about missing out on trick or treating with the kids!

You're being nice! I think if my kids were old enough to look forward to Trick Or Treating, I'd be skipping the Church. If they want to have a wedding on Halloween, that's their decision and should understand if you skip the ceremony to take the kids out. Any normal day, I'd never skip the ceremony, but I feel like this is an exception bc now you have to find someone else to take the kids and that's a huge drag.

Re: How would you feel about a Wedding on Halloween?
I'd be bummed. I really look forward to Halloween... And it is an evening thing (you can't trick or treat at noon). I'd send hubby and skip ceremony myself.
I do understand not thinking of it as a bride... We didn't have kids in the family when we got married and I remember thinking a Halloween wedding would be cool.

How would you feel about a Wedding on Halloween?
I would be upset but not pissed...more so that is was a Friday too because my kids would have school so i wouldn't have anytime with them to trick or treat with them.
However, Now days there is so many trick or treating events the weekend before, that you could do that with them and still get to enjoy the holiday with them

This!
Before I had a baby, I always thought it would be fun to go to a Halloween wedding. Now that I have a child, I would not want to miss trick or treating.

This exactly. I would send DH to the ceremony and stay home and yo trick or treating early and the head to the wedding after.
