Me personally I dont like looking frumpy and that to me is sweats etc only because I find that for ME it brings me down emotionally. When I dress up, put on makeup, my hair is nice and shiny and I have on nice clothes I feel great. I look forward to Sundays bc I get dressed up for church, maybe its the 5 year old in me but I like to look nice. I also have 2 small children and zero help in the mornings and I can still get 3 of us put together.
Exactly.
And not to but if I had time to go online, I can't see why I wouldn't have the time to throw on a clean pair of clothes.
Not as simple when you have a screaming child, no clothes that fit, uncomfortable in the clothes you do own b/c they don't fit right, etc.
BTDT. I have 2 children.

Re: How to avoid dressing like a frumpy mom Newsday Article
Changing out of the clothes you wore to bed takes about 60 seconds. Even if you do nothing else-- hair, makeup, etc, it is seriously like one minute of your day to put fresh clothes on. So I don't buy the excuse that anyone has "no time" to put on fresh clothes.
HOWEVER.... having been a SAHM for 5 years now with 2 kids, I think a more accurate answer may be that there are days when you don't feel like putting on fresh clothes because you just feel tired, or you're so frazzled and overextended that it doesn't even feel worth it to put on fresh clothes. I could understand that mindset completely. And there's nothing wrong with that, if it makes you feel like there's one less chore to do in your morning.

I think that is saying tomatoe v. tomahto. one answer is more palatable and understandable to some.
however, I think it simply SUCKS that anyone would be questioned about the time they have in their day.
the "if *I* have time, you have time" thing. I think that is ridiculous. and quite frankly, mean.
ETA: just b/c you have kids, even more than one, doesn't mean every parent has the same day and same experience.

I don't even have kids and some days I don't get out of yoga pants/pj's.
It's really easy to get into the "why bother" trap. I don't even have kids, so I can only imagine what it's like to be running after kids, totally exhausted, and getting puked on anyway

Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day. We all choose to use them differently. I was not judging a person who chooses not to change clothes-- rather I was empathizing with them.
Right now I could probably be doing crunches or squats while my kids play near me. Instead I choose this

I think this is gonna go down as one of the more inane threads in LIF history.
If people want smelly cooch and clothes, so be it!!!
What someone does or does not do is not for me to judge. Who cares?

Because when I'm online its b/c I'm feeding somebody. And with twins that eat every 2 1/2 hours Im sitting at the computer a lot.

Re: How to avoid dressing like a frumpy mom Newsday Article
When I was on maternity leave with DD (my first) I distinctly remember one day that I showered, started to dress and it took me about 25 minutes to put a bra on.
25 minutes!!!
Because she was screaming and crying on and I couldn't do it with just one hand so it wasn't getting done. I remember crying on the phone to my DH - she won't let me put my bra on!! I just need to get out of this house but she won't let me!!
So I definitely can understand how someone would not want to spare the 60 seconds you think it may take.
But I know from hating the post-baby body. I have 3 pairs of jeans that fit and about 20 that don't. I'm waiting for the numbers to reverse themselves rather than buy more. I pick sweats most of the time instead (cute ones though).

Right, so after a night of not sleeping and feeding your baby and taking care of them, the first thing you should really think about is putting on a little heel I'd trip if I had to lug my two around in even the faintest of a heel! Sometimes you just can't get your act together. Geez. Can they write an article on how my husband can dress better? Now that would be awesome.

Re: How to avoid dressing like a frumpy mom Newsday Article
I really can't believe people care what others wear, or if they do their hair, or if they accessorize. Geez, as long as the person doesn't smell so bad that they make me want to throw up...I could care less if they are wearing polka dotted flannel pants and a wrinkled fluorescent sweatshirt with their hair in a scrunchie and toothpaste smeared on their face. Why would anyone care? I just truly don't get it.
Weekdays are hell - having 2 kids and working full time and having to get everyone up and clean and presentable. Weekends are MY time. MY time to relax. MY time to roll out of bed and get bagels in my pajamas with no bra on if I want to. Whoever doesn't like it should stay home and watch re-runs of the Oscars so that they don't have to see anything unattractive.

Re: How to avoid dressing like a frumpy mom Newsday Article
I will say, I used to dress "frumpy" bc I hated my body. I lost 30 lbs and even though I still can lose another 20, I dress a lot nicer and it makes me feel a lot better about myself when I leave the house.
However, I don't care how other people dress and would never pass judgement on someone who was in sweats/no makeup/etc.

The most polished, beautiful attractive thing there is is a dedicated mommy who tends to her children's needs before her own. What she wears is irrelevant--truly.
People have different constraints, resources (monetary, time, etc.), and challenges. Things come easy to some and not to others. Some people care more than others about spiffying up.
But those who put their children before themselves are always the most beautiful- whether they're in a ball gown or jammies.

And as the author said, she never had a young child. So I don't really get why she feels warranted to give advice. Some of it was good. Some of it, like wearing heels (most of us don't want to wind up in the ER when we have to suddenly run after our DC and wind up tripping and breaking our face) and the earrings are stupid. I love big earrings. So does my 10 month old DD. After the 20th time she almost tore them out with my earlobe, I learned they are not smart to wear.
Where does the author say she doesn't have children? I saw the first line where the OP says she, herself, doesn't have children.
I misread it. I am exhausted

why can't you wrap your head around the fact that this is how YOU and the pp may feel but other people just don't feel that way? maybe they feel as comfy in sweats as you do in jeans??? maybe their husbands prefer sweats b/c it outlines the shape of their ***? it doesn't matter.
I cannot see how the last comment was necessary. yuck.
I never said I would not wear sweats but someone mentioned not even having time to get out of pjs or sweats that were worn the night before.
I WAS that mom. A pretty good chunk of my maternity leave was spent in sweats or pj's AND on most days I didn't get to wash up or have a cup of coffee until DH got home.
My DS was a colicky baby with severe silent reflux. He cried, cried, and cried all the time - forget about putting him down. He would NOT have it. Getting to brush my teeth before noon was considered a good day.
So no - not everyone has the time to straighten their hair, shower or get out of their pj's from the night before.
