How much time does/did your infant spend in the swing?
I have a 4 week old DD, and guilt everytime I put her in the swing.
She has been spitting up, so the Dr said to try to hold her upright for an hour after she eats...well, Im bfing, so she eats every 2-3 hours, and feedings can take up to an hour, so I usually put her in her swing for a little while after she eats...just so I can eat, pee, etc.
We currently live in a tiny apt, so the swing is the only thing we have for her that allows her to sit more upright.
Also, she has her days and nights confused, so she is up ALL night, and at times the swing is the only place she is not fussy.
I try not to let her sleep in the swing, if she falls asleep there I will move her to her bassinet.
How much time did/does your LO spend in the swing??

Re: How much time does/did your infant spend in the swing?
I am sort of in the same boat as you - DD is 4w, and she eats every 2-3 hours (hence being up at 5:15!), and she spits up a lot and needs to be upright for a while after feedings. I leave her in the swing all the time - even when she is sleeping. We also have a rock and play which she sleeps in at night (and sometimes during the day) and that is pretty elevated.

Dont feel bad!!
Both my babies were swing babies, up until 6 months. They loved it. They were constantly in it at that age. My son had reflux, so I also put him in the swing after feedings so he could be upright.
Do you have a bouncy seat? that keeps them upright. another option.

Thanks, we have an infant seat, but really no place to put it until we move...which should hopefully be soon!

Don't feel bad! I wish my DD would have sat in the swing (or anywhere for that matter) for more than a few minutes. She was difficult and wanted to be held and walked around CONSTANTLY.
I say, if you get some peace and quiet or the baby gets some sleep- do whatever you have to do!

Re: How much time does/did your infant spend in the swing?
DD loves the swing, i think she spends about 5-6 hours a day in it...she's in it for 2-3 solid naps during the day...she doesn't like it at night and then shes in the rock n play. i have tried putting her in the rock n play during the day but she doens't like it...she also doens't like to be flat on her back so she is either being held, in the swing, the rnp or in her car seat. she will be 8 weeks on Sunday
I dont feel guilty about the time she spends there because she needs to rest and she sleeps good in it and it allows me to shower, nap, eat, pump, etc...

Re: How much time does/did your infant spend in the swing?
My baby lived in his swing the first 7 months and I mean, naps in it and slept in it all night with it moving!
We did a ton of tummy time also, got him moving as much as possible, but the swing was the only thing he would sleep in.
Once he was in his crib, we got rid of the swing all together.

Re: How much time does/did your infant spend in the swing?
We have a tiny apt. too - just a bouncy and swing for him..positioned right next to eachother in a corner. My DS spends a lot of time in the swing because he will not fall asleep in bouncy (doesn't love it either) and wakes up immediately if I try to put him in the bassinet. I feel horibble but he sleeps for one 4-hour stretch in the late evening and most of it is spent in the swing. I try to move him but he wakes up when he is laid flat. I do turn the swing off after I know he is asleep.

Re: How much time does/did your infant spend in the swing?
Same for my DS. He has really bad acid reflux and the swing was the only thing he would sleep in. It was the only place I could put him and he wouldnt cry.
I didnt feel bad.. I knew he liked it. Now at 5 months DS will only go in his swing for 10 minutes tops.

Re: How much time does/did your infant spend in the swing?
I really try to keep DD out of the swing but usually that's the only place that she's happy if she's awake and not being held! She can entertain herself for maybe 10 mins now on her playmat but she'll eventually get bored and scream to be picked up. If I have to get something done, she goes in the swing and loves it. I am sure to give her as much tummy time as she'll tolerate and other forms of stimulation but the swing is by far her favorite spot to hang out!

Re: How much time does/did your infant spend in the swing?
Thanks everyone! I fell better about it now. We do tummy time every night, and she sleeps in the bassinet all day, but she is wide awake all night, and the swing is the only thing that seems to work during her fussy times.

DD is in the swing a lot actually. She really likes it. It helps soothe her and she sleeps well in there!
