How much time does your newborn/infant spend...

in their swing/bouncer/rocker?

DD is very content to be in her swing for an hour or more at a time, she even naps in there... it seems like she often prefers that to being held.

Just wondering what was too much, since DS never really loved spending too much time in those things and usually preferred to be held.

Jack loved the swing, exercauser, you name it and could spend hours in it.

Tyler, not so much!

Re: How much time does your newborn/infant spend...

Funny you bring this up now. I was talking to DH about it last night. DD's reflux was acting up again (we had to change the dosage of her meds) so to keep her elevated while she slept, we started putting her in the swing. We did this pretty often during the day and at night, especially when we had to do something.
Now she LOVESSSSSSSSSSSSS her swing. I put her in there and she instantly quiets down, relaxes and usually falls asleep. She even STTN the other night in there, didn't even move.

I say if she enjoys it, keep her there Chat Icon

DS loved his swing and bouncy too. He could stay in there for a while. He is so easy going and was fine being held or in something. Then he loved the exersaucer and now that he's crawling he's all over the place.

Enjoy it now and get what you need done. Chat Icon

DS only likes the swing and jumperoo for like 20 mins. He doesnt really like anything more than 20 mins. He just loves being held and taking walks in the carriage.

Liam loved the swing. He would sleep in there too sometimes. I don't remember, but he was in it a lot. Probably about 2-3 hours a day (in spats, not all at once). Probably an hour at time.

DS goes in the swing in the morning (he's in right now) to catnap while I pump. I'd say he spends about 45 minutes in there because when he falls asleep I leave him until he wakes.

Re: How much time does your newborn/infant spend...

so funny you ask this. yesterday was really our first full day being at home in awhile.

she was in swing, i would take her out, figuring she had enough, feed, change...got antsy and fussy, back in swing, right to sleep.

i would say total 4 hours a day.

Bella spent days at a time in her excersaucer Chat Icon

Lola spent months in her swing Chat Icon

She likes the excersaucer (Lola) but doesn't last for too long. Now that she's sitting up, rolling and moving backwards, she's more content just hanging out sitting on the floor with toys.

You are so lucky! My DS will only spend 15 min in there at a time. I can't get anything done!

I feel like this will be Izzie Chat Icon I am just worried that I am "neglecting" her, although she seems totally happy in there. Strange?

Sienna sleeps in the swing. And she gives me nice long stretches. She likes the bouncy, but not as much as the swing. However, unless she is sleepy, she does not want to be in either. She insists on being with mama or on the activity mat.

Re: How much time does your newborn/infant spend...

DS hated the swing, I always felt like he thought we were dumping him in there and abandoning him. So I started putting him in there and sitting down to talk to him until he seems drowsy. He rarely falls into a deep sleep in it, unless I swaddle him.

But I think he grew into it, its his favorite place after meals, really helps him to sit and digest his meals, burp, toot, poop, pee, we nickname it the potty swing.
He now sits and talks to the animals on the mobile and always produces a dirty diaper.

To get him drowsy sometimes I'll swaddle him really tight and put him in there on his side, set the swing to high, shush him and in 5 minutes he'll be deep asleep. Then move him to crib.

DS hates the swing so he is never in it. I keep trying it periodically, but he still hates it Chat Icon

He like his bouncer chair and will stay in it for about 15-20 minutes at a time. I put him in it a few times a day.

I wish he would like the swing or stay in the bouncer so I could get things done!!!

Re: How much time does your newborn/infant spend...

DS loves the swing. He sleeps in in every night and naps in it. My mentality is that he is sleeping regardless of the location...he is comfortable. He likes the constant motions and the music soothes him. When he's super cranky sometimes the swing can calm him down.

Same with dd... she spent soooo much time in her swing early on. I used to feel guilty, but then realized if thats where she was most happy then so be it!
