How much doesn't seem cheap
My DH has 9 nieces and nephews, one brother has 4 the other 5. We have 2 DC. DH wanted to either give them cash or giftcards because they are so hard to buy for and a bit ungrateful. How much should he give without them calling him cheap

Re: How much doesn't seem cheap
I usually spend more on gift cards than I do on actual gifts. I usually just give for birthdays. Usually $50 That's way above my Christmas budget, so I just get gifts.

Re: How much doesn't seem cheap
I have 7 nieces and nephews and spend $100 on each. I know that is probably a lot... but to answer your question, I wouldn't be comfortable spending any less than 50. (We are very close to them, if the relationship was more distant, I'm sure I wouldn't spend as much).

Re: How much doesn't seem cheap
i have 9 nieces and nephews as well (and we don't have any kids). I usually spend in the $20-$25ish range on each of them. One of my nephews is hard to buy for (11 is a weird age, imo) so we got him a $25 gc to best buy. i think $20-$25 is good... kids are generally over-spoiled these days anyway

I disagree. I have learned not to be "competitive" in spending on gifts. They spend what they feel they can and want to on your DC's. Multiply 25 by that many kids, and that adds up!! I would say try to find a gift for each kid (try the clearance aisle for a good bargain) and call it a day. I always wind up spending more on a cash gift then I would have spent on a "gift". Sorry to be the disagree-er, I just wanted to add my 2 cents

Exactly. I agree 100%.
Spend what you think is appropriate and what you can afford. If it's $15 per child, fine. If it's $50, fine. If it's somewhere in between, that's fine, too.
We have 6 nieces and nephews + my godchild (cousin's son) to buy for and I budget $50 each for Christmas.... but that is b/c that is within my budget. If it wasn't, I'd spend less, and I know they'd be equally as grateful.

Re: How much doesn't seem cheap
I can commisserate. I have 10 nieces and nephews + 1 addl godson and DH has 2 nieces... that's 13 kids to buy for every year and we don't even have our own kids. They get a max of $30 per child (though 1-2 always wind up luckier) b/c that is what is within our budget. Like PP's have said, do only what is within your budget - $20 per kid is fine!

Re: How much doesn't seem cheap
We spend $40 - $60 on each of our 9 nieces and nephews. But, my sibs and Steve's sister spend that much (or more) on ours.
In your case, I think a $20-$25 gift card/gift is more than appropriate.

Have you considered group gifts to each household..
Not sure how much the range in age but if they are close enough you could get a bunch of games for game night or movies with a popcorn maker- we try to do stuff like that when we can

same here. i used to do much more when we only had 2 nephews but now there's more and we have our own DC and I just feel like the holidays get out of control so this year I did $20-$30 on each.

Re: How much doesn't seem cheap
i'm another vote for the $20-$25 range.
dh has neices who are 12 and they are specifically asking for gc's
i'll be putting them in a nice tin and include a small token gift... maybe a burt's bees pack

Re: How much doesn't seem cheap
I got each of my nephews a $25 gift card (they STILL haven't arrived!), a book and a spiderman figure (well sandman...)
I figure that they are getting so much stuff from aunts, cousins, grandparents and their parents!!!

If they were all closer in age that would be have been great, we actually have 11 on his side to buy for becauase his sister has 2 but we see them after New Years and on my side we have 2, so we have 13 total plus my 2 kids
Like others have said I am not going into debt over a Holiday, thank you for all your suggestions

Re: How much doesn't seem cheap
Ugh. We just spent 50.00 per niece/nephew and we have seven all together. We're not exchanging gifts with my bil/sil and their SOs, only giving gifts to the kids. I think I insulted his family members by saying we weren't going to exchange with the adults, but enough's enough. We don't have kids yet, so they always get off scotch-free.

We had 17 kids to buy for this year. 7 are nieces and nephews and we spent $50-$60 on them. The other 10 we spent a MAX of $30 on.

What about a family gift? Such as a g/c to the movies?
