about $2000--we had a small christening and said we would have a big 1st birthday. the hall was a big chunk of that $2000.

We did a backyard party for about 60 guests and it came to about $900 maybe a little less. DD's cake cost about $150, we had it catered and had a tent with tables and chairs. HTH!

Re: HOW MUCH did you spend on your child's 1st birthday party?
We originally wanted to have it at our house, but the total invite list for just close family and friends was too much, especially with one bathroom being under renovation. We wanted something inexpensive and easy since we went all out for DD christening and that cost 2600 bucks.
SO we are having it at our favorite chinese buffet place for lunch on a Sunday. Cost 9.95 a head including tax and drink and I don't have to worry about a thing.
Total for that plus Yo Gabba Gabba character, decorations and cake will probably be about 650- 700 for 50 people.

Re: HOW MUCH did you spend on your child's 1st birthday party?
We had people at the house. I made lasagna for the family (who arrived 1 1/2 hours before everyone else), and penne ala vodka for everyone else. I made two cakes - one for DD, and then one for my friends whose multiple b-days were within days of DD's.
Total, hmmmm, $100???
Oops, forgot about paper goods etc. So maybe another $50.

Ok this is good... now i'm getting an idea of what's realistic.
We found a cute restaurant on the beach down here and for 45 people in a private room it would be $750... includes choice of 2 lunch options, soft drinks, tax & tip. I originally was thinking that was a lot but it seems reasonable right? We'd provide our own cake and decorations. Did you have entertainment? Is it necessary... there will probably be 8 kids total, half are under a year old and half over 3 years old.

Re: HOW MUCH did you spend on your child's 1st birthday party?
About $600. We rented my Gram's clubhouse in her condo community for a $100, I decorated everything with Backyardigans stuff from Party City, and I cooked all of the food except for the hero which we ordered. I got a 6ft. hero with chicken cutlets, roasted peppers, and fresh mozzarella which was a huge hit........there wasn't any left, I made sausage and peppers, penne ala vodka, and a tossed big salad with an assortment of dressings and croutons on the side. I also had a big basket of italian bread and soda, beer, and wine. We ordered a huge cake from BJ's for $18, I made cupcakes, and my BFF made chocolate dipped pretzels and brownies. It all turned out awesome. A lot of work but way cheaper in the end than catering everything.

this sounds really nice.
I would forgo the entertainment in lieu of some sort of activity. like a crafts table or a sandcastle building contest.

Awesome idea, I can get some stuff from michaels that they can decorate or something.
I'll have to see if we can go to and from the beach during the party.

we did a craft table instead too. We bought like 4 craft sets from oriental trading (for next to nothing) each had enough for like 12 kids per set.

Re: HOW MUCH did you spend on your child's 1st birthday party?
$2500...it was mainly for catering and entertainment. To me entertainment was very important since I had kids within a different age range...and they did great! All ages were occupied! I also had an activity table for kids with coloring books, crayons, toys and books.

Re: HOW MUCH did you spend on your child's 1st birthday party?
honestly-- it depends on where you live, when your DC"s bday is and how many people you need to invite.
We spent I think about $1300, but $500 was on the place, then I had to get food, favors, etc. and I also had a photographer (Blissful)...
If I had a summer baby, and lived in a house at the time- it would have been different.
