do you plan on having a huge 1st birthday party for your child?

i'd like to have a big party.. but we are having a winter baby and we can't accomodate a huge crowd in our small apartment, otherwise, i'd have a great big backyard paty....

i guess we can have it at a resturant but that seems a bit much..
i have no idea what to do

what are your plans??

we'll have a medium size Christening so we'll do a smaller 1st birthday (probably just family and maybe friends, who knows)

Absolutely not. The kid will be one and won't remember a thing. I rather save the money and give our child a big party when they will actually remember and understand what's going on.

The parties I have been subjected to going to is frankly ridiculous. There is always more adults then kids and the kid has no clue what's going on. And to spend thousands on that is a waste of money.

I guess it depends on how we are financially. I'm sure the Christening is going to be a spectacle, so not sure if the 1st b-day is going to be that ridiculous. I have a large family with a lot of children, so it would truly be a kid party.

We didn't have a religious party because I'm Jewish and DH is Catholic, so we did have a big restaurant party for his 1st bday. This year for his 2nd, and everyone after, we are just having a kids party. We "may" have the family over just for cake and coffee on his actual bday.

i think i'll wait till the baby gets a little older to do the fun stuff like cotton candy machines and what not...
first party, i think will do just immediate family and cram us the house... it is true, they won't know what is going on or remember..

2nd/3rd birthday maybe we will have it a fun places like chucky cheese..etc

We're in the same situation as you, we're in a one bdrm apt and our baby is born in February, so we can't fit a ton of people in there. And neither of us ever had the bells and whistles 1st bday parties, it was just close family and friends. So we'll most likely do immediate family and closest friends and save the money for when they get older and want to invite the world.

Not at all. This is just OUR opinion but DH and i think it is the biggest waste of money. The kid is ONE. They have ZERO clue. All those 1st bday parties ive been to seem more like show for the parents than for the kid.

My picture perfect baby 1st bday would be my and DHs siblings/parents, pizza and CUPCAKES!! A real old-fashioned bdayChat Icon

We are just not into those things at all

No, we don't have big families, and their birthday will be very close to the holidays. We'll do a small thing. I also don't have any desire to spend that kind of money on something they will never remember.

Not sure yet. We're going to have a decent size Baptsim for Baby P*star since we have to invite many family members. We may just have a small first birthday party at my house or my sister's house. My thoughts may change by next year though.

Smallish christening, large 1st bday both will definitely be in a restaurant or catering hall.

DS will be 1 in May, so we will probably have a fairly large BBQ in our backyard. However, I will be 8 months pregnant at that point, so who knows if I will be up to a huge bash. Chat Icon
If we only end up having close family, I won't feel to bad since he had a huge christening.

Re: do you plan on having a huge 1st birthday party for your child?

I don't think so. I'm sure we'll have a family get together, but the baby is due Christmas Day and people may be partied out that time of year!

One of the nurses at my OBs office said all of the kids in her family have a b'day within a week of Christmas, so they have a big birthday party every July, I think this may be a good idea when the baby gets older and wants to have friend parties.

Re: do you plan on having a huge 1st birthday party for your child?

No!! We will have a cake, some yummy food and close family/friends.

ETA: I think the parties within my family are getting to be a little too much. Within one month I have a Christening, 1st birthday, my shower and an 11th birthday party. Then comes Christmas and a brief respite before the May/June/July birthday surge comes around.Chat Icon

Re: do you plan on having a huge 1st birthday party for your child?

We had a smaller Christening with family only (75 people)

So we had a huge first birthday (115 adults and 55 kids)

We will do the same next time around also! My son is born in June though so we have great weather to work with and a big backyard!

Yeah, we had a "small" party with just family and close friends and it was like 35 people and about 10 babies.

You'd be surprised at what happens.

We will probably do the opposite - big Christening and small bday with family only
