how long did you wait until grandparents visited dc?

When you came home from the hospital with the baby, how long did you wait til the dc's grandparents were allowed to visit?

Was the delay a germ concern or just wanting time to bond with the baby?

How long til you brought dc over their house?

ETA- did you let them hold the baby in the hospital if they visited? Did you wait to let them hold the baby when they visited so the baby wouldn't get sick?

My parents were there when she was born (not in the room, but they were in the hall). I don't remember if MIL came to the hospital... god that was only 8 mos ago, lol.

My parents (along with each of their spouses) came to visit in the hospital, and also the day we bought DS home. My in-laws live in FL, but they would have been there from day 1 if they were closer.

Honestly, all I asked was no visitors that first day he was home from the hospital. After that, we had grandparents, great grandparents, aunts & uncles, cousins, and friends in and out all the time. I loved the company, I actually got sad once the stream of visitors stopped after the first month or so.

My parents came over the day we came home (and visited in the hospital too of course). We werent speaking to DH's parents at the time so they didnt come

Eveyone saw the babies in the hospital. Then we had to stay with my parents for 2 weeks bc we closed on our new house the day the babies were discharged from the NICU. We followed the nurses advice of no visitors for 2 weeks after they were home. DH's parents are OOS so they came back again when they were 2 months.

Both sets of grandparents were in the waiting room and saw dd an hour after she was born. Then they both came back to the hospital the next day to see her again. They also visited the day i got home from the hospital. I brought dd out to a family bbq at a week old but didnt let everyone hold her for fear of germs.

They were at the hospital after he was born and there when we brought him home.

My parents came to the hospital same day she was born but no one was there when she was born (emergency csec). ILs came next day. No one held her, she was in NICU, however, I preferred no one to hold her there. Once we got home (csec so 5 days), my family was there when we got home but then didn't come for a while. My ILs came the following week. I didn't feel up for visitors too soon and everyone respected that.

Grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, friends all visited while we were in the hospital and when we came home for the first month or so very frequently. I had no problems letting anyone hold DD as long as no one was sick and they washed their hands.

My parents were there when dd was born and il's came right away. My mom was over the day after we got home.

My mom was in the delivery room when DD was born. For DS, they had DD stay with them, and came that first day.

For both delivers, MIL was actually in my hospital room before I was . Nothing like that shock when you are being rolled into your room!

Once we were home, both my parents and MIL were over pretty frequently. There was no delay, in or out of the hospital, in having them hold the baby.

my parents were at the hospital the day my kids were born and at our homes they day we brought them home. dont see why it would be an issue unless they are obviously sick.

For both kids, everyone came to visit the day they were born, and were at the house the day we came home.

Grandparents held DD in the hospital, my mom was at the house when we brought her home, and my parents specifically were over ALL the time from birth. I just asked that everyone wash their hands first.

My parents were there at the hospital as I labored and saw/held the baby that night.

DH's parents got to see the baby around day 3 in the hospital.

After that, my mom came to visit the first day we were home with the baby. There was no delay because my parents were just crazy about our baby girl!

My parents were there the day we got home from the hospital. DH's parents prob came over within a day or two. I didn't mind them holding the baby, as long as they washed hands and weren't sick. I was more concerned about kids around my babies. Both parents were also in the hospital with us and held the babies the day after they were born

My parents were at the hospital when all 3 were born. They held the kids from day 1. They stayed w/ us for a week or so after I came home both times.

My MIL came up about 2 weeks after the twins were born and a few days after DS#3 was born. She held the kids immediately too.

MIL lives OOS so the kids still haven't been to her house.

We went to my parents for the first time w/ the twins when they were 3mo. We would have gone sooner but we don't go upstate too often.

I was never worried about germs w/ my parents or MIL or that their presence would reduce my bonding w/ the kids.

My mom was in the delivery room and held DD there. The rest of the grandparents saw her on our way to the room. All of them held her the next day. My parents came over as soon as we got home. If you asked me beforehand if I'd want that I would have said no way, but at the time I was so glad to have their help. IL's came to visit the next day. All of them held DD during any visit.

My inlaws and my dad were in the waiting room when the twins were born but no one got to see them since they went to the NICU. They came home 30 days later and we didn't tell anyone they were coming home until we got home with them. We didn't allow any of the family over the first few days they were home. We did this because it was winter and we had to be very careful of germs having preemies. With this baby, we just ask no one come over our first day or two home so we can bind with the baby and our twins.

My mom flew up from SC the day we came home from the hospital. My dad picked her up at LGA and I think they got to the house almost the same exact time we did!

My mom was in the room with DH while in labor, but I ended up a c-section so she (along with my whole family) was in the waiting room. My IL's came immediately after delivery. I can't imagine our families not being there right away, actually I would have been mad if they weren't there! My mom came to help first night home, IL's came next day at home.

things were a bit different with ds.... he was in the nicu not my room for 10 days. The first day both inlaws, and great grandparents came to visit him in the nicu( of course no one could hold him in the incubator).Day 2 my mom showed up unannounced, had a fit and disappeared til I called her a couple weeks later... I think my IL's visited the baby day 2, then we had swine flu outbreak and nicu was limited to only the baby's parents... when we finally brought him home IL's wanted to come over that night, but we pushed it off til the next day.. we actually ended up bringing him home in the evening and were busy assembling the bassinet.....and I remember not wanting to share him yet after having a rough time giving him back to the nurses in the nicu.

With my sister's kid I remember my mom coming over, sometime after the first visit, BIL ending up telling her to leave cause her he took a week off from work so that my sis, BIL and baby could bond as a family.......I am actually taking a break from my family and reevaluating things after the baby is born, which just leaves the IL's, I kinda like the idea of having just us time, and I remember myself not feeling great the first week after I gave birth....

I was also wondering if should put the baby in the hospital nursery when visitors come since I'm so worried about the baby getting sick.ds went through so much when he was born with pneumonia
