Re: how long did you wait until grandparents visited dc?

Everyone came to the hospital to visit - Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Friends - as long as no one brought their germy kids w/ them, I didn't have a problem at all - Whoever wanted to hold the baby did .......I just had one rule, wash your hands.

The only thing I asked was that we be alone the day we brought the baby home - I wanted it to just be us, both times. When Colin was born, Brian came to the hospital with Sean, and we all went home as a family - I didn't care who came over when after that day - I just wanted that first day to ourselves.

Re: how long did you wait until grandparents visited dc?

With dd#1 son many people came to the hospital - grandparents, great grand parents, aunts uncles and cousins. I think most held her. And my mom and mil came over right after we came home. And they brought my 5 year old niece too.
I do remember that night the rest of dh's family came over since they live son close and we had to ordr in food and I felt overwhelmed bc they all wanted to be served and I had JUST come home! I went up to my room ad just cried till dh came up and saw and then kicked them out.

With dd#2 I had hernso quickly in the middle of the night that no one made it to the hospital - I barely did! My mil came soon after, as did dh's grandfather. My mom came as soon as she got up and my dad came later in the day - and everyone held her. My nieces came later and held her too. Oh and my parents live in ny and I live in nj.

They next day was a bad snowstorm so only dh was able to get there!

If I told the grandparents they couldn't come or hold the baby that would NOT have went over well!!!!!

Re: how long did you wait until grandparents visited dc?

My parents and DS's godmother saw him before I did.
They all came over the next day to the hospital and held him right away.
We also had DH's cousin and his gf visit us in the hospital.

my parents drove us home from the hospital and stayed a few minutes.

I insisted no visitors for the first two days, and then we had a whole bunch of people (friends and family) stop by a few at a time.

we went over to my parents and then DH's parents as soon as I was able to walk up and down the stairs.

Both sets of grandparents saw both DD and DS in the hospital and held them on the day they were born. All held them several times within the first weeks of their lives as well.

Grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, friends all visited while we were in the hospital and when we came home for the first month or so very frequently. I had no problems letting anyone hold DD as long as no one was sick and they washed their hands.

same here. i saw everyone about 20 minutes after i delivered.

For both kids the grandparents/aunts/uncles all saw the baby immediately after birth and held them. Then they came up for all the visits where they held them. When we got home, they waited a couple of hours for us to settle in, then came over.

There was never any concerns with germs etc, unless someone was visibly sick and they knew better to stay away. Everyone washed their hands before holding the baby.

Re: how long did you wait until grandparents visited dc?

IL's and mom were at the hospital. People held my DS in hospital, but my DD was in NICU so they did not.

IL's were at my house when I arrived home with DS and came with my son shortly after getting home with DD.

You will bond with your child every day for the rest of their lives. You would have those special moments in the middle of the night when it is just you and DC.

the grandparents are just as excited as you are. They are only visiting for short time. And you will need help down the road, don't push them away.

Both sets of grandparents held DS once visiting hours started. We had the night alone with DS since I delivered at 1am. I was so excited for our families- our siblings included to meet our DS.

Re: how long did you wait until grandparents visited dc?

With DS both set of grandparents were there Dad/stepmom and Il's ~ I had a c-section so they were there when he was born. When we came home my dad/stepmom (live oos) and they went home and came back when I got out of the hospital and stayed a week.

I am preggo with # 2 and my Il's will not be there when she is born (mil can't get out of work) but I am hoping will come to the hospital later on that day. (not sure if that is there plan) and my dad/stepmom are planning on being there for the birth going back home and coming back when I get out of the hospital again. My mother was not present at my son's and really has no desire to meet her grand baby's (so sad really)

As far as holding/bonding with our LO Yes they will be able to as long as they updated there Tdap vaccine (pertussis, OBGYN's recommendation to anyone that will have direct contact with baby should have this
vaccination updated ~ it is a 10 yr vaccine so whoever has had this vaccine will be able to hold our lo as long as they are not sick and wash there hands etc.)

When we get home ~ my dad/stepmom will be there for the first week and go home and probably won't see LO until baptism/christening or next year. My Il's not sure we only see them a couple times a month now (and we have our ds)
