How long did you house hunt for?

My bf and I are *slowly* starting to look at houses..we have a low budget, but want something we can fix up, although we are kinda picky about neighborhood and property

So far we've driven past 3 houses, but didn't even have a desire to see the inside based on the property layout

We're not in a rush at all bc we're both living rent free at home right now

Just curious, how long you looked before purchasing?

My fisrt home took me about 1.5 years to find. My second home took about 3 years to find. I was not settling.

Re: How long did you house hunt for?

We researched neighborhoods, went to open houses, etc for about a year and then once we knew what town/development we wanted we put our house on the market. It took us a year to sell our current place - so that MADE us look longer. There were houses we liked, but couldn't make a serious offer until our house went into contract. When we finally had an accepted offer on our place there were no houses we liked in the development we wanted and were going to rent, but the day we signed the contracts the house we LOVE went on and we made a full price offer and it was accepted all within 2 hours of being put on the market. First house, about 5 months -- mostly just looking on the weekends.

Second house, two days. We were being relocated and were given one expenses-paid weekend trip to our new state to find housing. We saw 40 houses in two days. Chat Icon

Re: How long did you house hunt for?

Honestly, I think we hunted for a couple months on mls... but when we actually started looking at places, it only took 1 week... our search was narrowed down to condos and we saw alot at once... so it was a pretty easy decision... plus we needed to make it in for the 8k... plus another program that expired within about 2 weeks of being released! Re: How long did you house hunt for?

ok so it seems like we're on the right path..we wont have a dp ready until february or so when he gets his bonus, then he's gonna get pre-approved around there i suppose

right now we're trying to see what areas we're interested in and what our(his) money will get us in terms of property

we're not in a rush though, so we're really trying to find our perfect house for us

Re: How long did you house hunt for?

I would say about 9 months hardcore but we had our eye on the market for a good bit before that.

We saw 80+ houses and bid on one other before the one we're in contract for now.

I guess it really depends. If you're not in a rush and you're being picky, it could really take a while

We started looking Labor Day weekend. We finally found our house the following August! However, we took a break for about 5 months in the middle before we started up again. Between the 2 of us, we saw over 100 houses.

2 + years , we were VERY picky with the neighborhood and it is a very small neighborhood. I do not think we even saw one house every month in that time span even though we were very actively looking.

ETA: Thinking about it we MAYBE saw 15 houses.

Re: How long did you house hunt for?

I was always looking on MLS for a long time. We were actually house hunting a week. When we actually went to look for houses we had a good idea the neighborhood and type of house we wanted. We kept an open mind because we were looking for ranches and ended up with a colonial.

May-September. The house we bought we found in July, but it already had an offer. Offer fell through at the last minute and we made another offer in September.

Re: How long did you house hunt for?

Are you living together with the boyfriend now or will this house be the first place you will be sharing together? A house and mortgage is a BIG investment!

DH spent about 6 months house hunting however he needed to find something quick because his parents were selling the house and were moving out. I spent about 3 months looking for my condo but I was only looking in very specific areas.

We don't live together right now..so this would be our first place..but we want to take our time and really find the "perfect" house for us, and we're in no rush

We were looking on and off for 2 years. Then when we finally sold our apart in the city, it took exactly 3 1/2 months when we seriously starting and putting in offers.

Re: How long did you house hunt for?

We would check out MLS and occasionally go to open houses for about a year. When we finally got serious about house hunting, it took about 6 months before we found our home.
