hosting thanksgiving
I am hosting for first time. It'll be about 15 adults and 6 kids. I am thinking a buffet. Would you do paper or real plates and utensils??? If I did paper would do nicer plastic or thanksgiving theme but not sure...

We do the nicer disposable plates and silverware that from far away, you cant tell they are fake. Get them at Costco, there is enough dishes already after cooking thanksgiving.

For Christmas i put out Christmas themed cocktail napkins and fancy plastic appetizer plates, fancy plastic plates for dinner and Christmas themed paper plates and napkins for dessert We have like 30-40 people.
Do you have enough regular plates for everyone? If not I'd do fancy plastic. The ones that look real with the silver or gold trim

Personally I hate paper plates - even the nice ones. For a special occasion like this I would use real plates.

This is exactly what my mom does every year. It's too many people to be bothered having to do dishes. Spend a little more on the decorative throw away stuff.

For anything over 12, I use the disposable plates that look like China. It may even be chinette brand. White with silver rim. And the silver plastic utensils. Chinette plastic cups (not the ones with the rim. The plain nicer ones) Decorative napkins with napkin rings

When we don't use our china for thanksgiving, we use the Chinet dinner platters. So much bigger than a regular disposable plate! More room to fit all of those yummy sides!

I use the fancy disposable plates. We have a small kitchen and no dishwasher. It's such a space saver to be able to just toss them.

This!!! To each their own. It's funny in my family 3 cousins each have a holiday. My mom only uses China/Silver for hers and her cousins only do paper/plastic and can't understand why she doesn't and always try to convince her to! To me it's a holiday and won't kill you to use the China. But I don't judge my family who don't. As long as the food is delish, anything is fine!!!

Personally... I would never host a holiday and use paper, but I know Costco sells a nice disposable plates around the holidays.

I would never host a holiday and use real plates and silverware. Helllll no. That's just way too many dishes. Paper and plastic all the way. I get themed ones for whatever holiday it is. Easy peasy.
I hate hosting holidays.

I'm pretty sure if I used paper plates both my mother and mother in law would walk out and never done back.b
I have a dishwasher but never use it. It takes three washes total to get everything clean, and I wouldn't have it any other way

I was always such a stickler for "real" everything but as I get older I say fluck it and use the plastic. If people don't like it they can leave. More leftovers for you.

Honestly, paper and plastic all the way for holidays. It's funny because in my husband's we never use paper or plastic except for holidays and big bbqs lol. It's just too much work and I also don't want a set big enough for all our guests so it would annoy me not to have everything matching.

Do you really have enough china for a huge group of people? I have enough settings for 24 and most people comment that they only have 8 or 12. When we have more than 24 people over, we use the nicer looking disposable plates because I refuse to decide who is good enough for a real plate and who gets disposable.
Side note: I think if anyone shunned me for using disposable plates for a huge group, I would just tell them to get the f out of my house  Like eating off a real dish is more important then spending time with family and friends

I always use my china for holidays. Apps and main dinner on real plates. For dessert, I'll use themed paper plates, napkins and utensils. My china serves 12, so if I need more than that then I use my everyday dishes too.
