this house is near mine. It's on a slightly busy road and the house has been ripped down to the studs inside. It needs major work! My DH and I inquired about it b/c my DH wanted to fix it up.

Can you believe what they are asking!

house in centereach

Re: Here's another- that want how much????

the high pricer is probably due to the lot size. i agree 369K is a lot of $$!!! but in this market, some people are dreaming of redoing an entire house with a yard that big! not me!

Again you are paying for the lot size. Most people would knock the house down and start fresh....

That's my point! The taxes will do more than double!!!!! It's not even in a nice location! (street wise, not town)

Re: Here's another- that want how much????

I actually like centereach. I think it will be turning over quickly with all the young people (like myself) that are moving in.

BUT...and that is a BIG BUT.....There is NO WAY IN HELL that JUST the land in centereach is worth that much. It would cost that much PLUS to knock it downm PLUS to rebuild, PLUS the increase in taxes.
Sorry i may like centereach and think it is going to turn over. But i would rather buy a home in COmmack, Hauppauge or Smithtown that are cheaper!

I agree with you, I live in Centereach and my block used to be all older people that my DH parents were friends with, now all the parents are moving and a lot of younger people just starting out are moving in. Its good for us bc we own the house DH grew up in and there was really noone our age but now its definitly changing. They actually building another new house up the block from us, looks like it maybe a high ranch but the property doesnt look that big.

I agree! I am on the south setauket side of Centereach and absolutely love it here! We bought our house 3 years ago and have seen our neighborhood do a huge turn around! THere are so many young families moving in and renovating the outdated houses. I am glad we bought when we did! I still can't believe the price of houses today!

I share the same feeling that centereach is the next upcoming area! There are so many new couples moving in and fixing up the block. It's so nice to see! Many people are quick to put this area down, but they have no idea what it's like here!

Chat Icon to all my fellow centereach gals!

It isn't about JUST the property when buying a home.

Just how much do you think it would cost to knock down that house and then build a brand new one?

THEN ADD the original cost? PLUS the 3x"s tax increase!

YOU ARE ONE IDIOT to pay for all of that when you can buy a brand new home in a BETTER AREA!
REGARDLESS OF how much land you have!

Re: Here's another- that want how much????

And taxes will definitely not triple if you leave a small part of the old house structure there and build new around it.

I can see this house maybe having $6000 of taxes which is reasonable for a new house in centereach.

AND YES....anyone who is going to spend that much money for land in centereach, to rip down that house, to rebuild a new one, plus the increase in taxes (MOST DEFINITELY will be 7000K+)
IS AN IDIOT!

You compare to other houses in the area.

For the third time... show me a NEW house in that area (built in the last three years)... on a property that big.

If it isn't worth it... then it isn't worth it.

But don't rule somebody out as an IDIOT unless you do the research yourself first.
