Goind out for the day and RTF formula

This Sunday we're taking DS out for the day. We use RTF formula and I'm not exactly sure how to make it work. Do I just bring a ton of nursettes or those 8oz bottles? (DS drinks 6oz bottles now and we will probably have to feed him 4x) If I open an 8oz bottle can I keep it in ice packs or would I need to toss the remainder? Same thing if I bring the regular 32oz bottle, can I keep that on ice packs all day?

Or should I just use powdered formula for the day and try it out a few times before to make sure he doesn't have any issues with it???

Bring the 32 oz bottle and keep it on ice all day

ETA: If you can use powdered formula- that's your best bet.

i would take the 2 oz nursettes with you. We have been doing this with DS since he was born and its convenient when we are out and about. We just pour 2-3 nursettes into a bottle for him (depending on how hungry he is).

If you can use powder that is the easiest. I would fill bottles with water and then have powder measured out in one of those ocntainer things.

Otherwise I would just make the bottles and use a cooler bag for the RTF.

I used to bring the big container in a cooler bag when we were going out for the whole day. For shorter trips I would bring the 8oz bottles with me. I had a leak once and I felt this was just easier than dealing with the possibility of that happening.

For the 8oz bottles, the remaining amount is good if it's left cold (I think it can be open and room temp for up to 2 hrs).

Thanks! It makes life much easier knowing I can put the RTF on ice. It was easy when he was eating less, I just used the nursettes but I would have needed at least a dozen for this mini road trip we're going on!

I would fill up 4 bottles with 7 oz and put them in a cooler bag. This way you don't have to worry about washing the bottles while you are out.

I'd probably pre fill the bottles and put them in the cooler bag. When my DS was eating 7 oz at a feeding we just brought the 8 oz bottles and used them, and he usually would finish the whole thing. Something about being out and about always made him hungry.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to run to the store tomorrow and pick up a cooler bag? Any better than others? I'll look for one that holds four bottles.

I only use RTF never used powder... we always travel with the 8oz RTF bottles and just use the opened remaining portion with in 2hrs or keep cold and use within 24hrs. I think it even tells you on the back of RTF bottles. Been doing this since day 1 and never ever have had a problem

i use the dr browns cooler bag, no problems!!!

I kept a cooler bag for left overs. But DD didn't like it chilled so I'd save it up and warm it up for a bottle when we got home

we always used the RTF, neither kid could handle the powder)

we used the 8oz and just put a nipple on it, and tossed whatever they didnt finish.

it eliminated carrying extra bottles or having to worry about cleaning something, and if its one day, unless you are extra tight on money, a couple oz in the trash isnt much.
