FYI about CRIB TENT SAFETY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So after Peyton flung herself out of her crib yesterday, I decided to go get a crib tent today. I was told by a manager in Babies r Us, that they stopped selling them to protect themselves. There is currently an investigation into their safety after a bunch of deaths and injuries. They have not been recalled YET. Lots of places still sell them. Well I came home an googled it and this is one of the 1st things i foundChat Icon If you have one, you may want to think twice.....

Re: FYI about CRIB TENT SAFETY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate to say it sounds like a no brainer to me. I never could imagine how they are safe.

I felt the same way and was always surprised by how many people actually used them.

I don't use a crib tent - but in regards to her not getting out of her crib, how about putting her in a sleepsack. My son was trying to climb out when we put him down for naps once we brought the baby home from the hospital, so I put the sleepsack on him and he can't lift his little legs up! Chat Icon

Re: FYI about CRIB TENT SAFETY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not sure how it happened (maybe not installed properly) but apparently it happened.

Thanks for posting!

Now ANOTHER thing to freak about and how am I going to keep DS in his bed and not roam inside the house at night or worry he will try to climb his armoire and die if the furniture falls on him

The only thing is she did not fling her leg up to get over, she is very tall and she was hanging over the edge with her arms reached out while having a meltdown, and somehow went a$$ overheadChat Icon

exactly...secure th furniture to the wall, put a baby gate by the door, end of story

or do what I did and put a child proof door knob cover on the inside of the door if you are afraid of the child roaming the house at night

I used the crib tent at 18 months because he was still sleeping in any position in his crib. I would find him at the edge of the side, the head facing the other way.

Oh well!

Re: FYI about CRIB TENT SAFETY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DD#1 climbed out at 16 months and we put her in a toddler bed with a gate on her door and strapped everything to the wall. But it sucked, She never slept, I never slept and I was so............ hoping to not go there again just yet. I guess I am going to have no choiceChat Icon

I agree. We LOVED it, BUT we also didn't have the one that tucks under the mattress, it only went on top.

From what I was reading the one the only goes on top is more dangerous and I just read that, that one may have actually been recalled.

Re: FYI about CRIB TENT SAFETY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DD has been in the tent since she was 18 months. The tent itself is very tight around the mattress.

We didn't and still don't have the optoin for the big girl bed until we move (next week). DD is now 2 & 1/2.

I think with anything, if you use your best judgement and monitor you're gut will tell you if it's ok. If you try it and find it to be loose and a danger, I'm sure you wouldn't leave it on.

My issue is this, I have become a slightly neurotic mother since Peyton and I fell when she was 8 weeks old and she suffered an pretty severe Head injury.(she fractured her skull from ear to ear and had 3 subdural hematomas) We were lucky with a miracle of an outcome, but I have lasting issues.
I say this... Its never a problem until its a problem, KWIM? Everyone makes there own choices and I judge no one but I have become unable to take the slightest risk with my kids.

Re: FYI about CRIB TENT SAFETY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i know someone who has a 6 year old dd whos autistic and has down syndrome, if she wasnt "contained" she would get out of bed and cause trouble. my friend had her in a crib with a tent on it until she was doing something thru the state involving getting stuff for her dd and when they came to look at her house and saw the bed they said if she didnt take it down they would report her to cps. they said they rather her sleep on the floor then in the crib like that but that wasnt an option as her dd would get into too much trouble. she found this and the state approved it

ETA: i tried adding the picture but it was huge so if you wanna see what it looks like go to myreadysetbloom.com

If you use the item correctly and check it on a regular basis, you should be fine. I know of plenty of people who use them and will continue to use them. It seems that every baby product has some type of issue with it now a days. How is it that we survived as babies? Go with your gut. If you want to use it, use it. Chat Icon

My friend who was going through a nasty divorce had CPS come to her house a few times while she was using one of these on DS's crib, it wasn't an issue at all. He had a lot of developmental issues and needed to be contained at night or he would be roaming the house at all hours.
