Can I? Yes. Do I normally? No.
My husband is always the DD because he really doesn't drink much at all anyway.
If I have to drive, then yes I can not drink or have one drink at the beginning of a long night and be done.
Luckily I don't have to drive very often!
Me too!

Re: Drinking alcohol
I didn't answer the poll properly. I used to drink a beer or a glass of wine if I was the DD.
Now - I don't drink a drop if I have to drive. Even if it will be an hour or 2 before I leave. Even if it will be 5 hours before I leave. Because you never know what will come up. What if my kid gets sick and I have to take him home? What if I get an emergency phone call? Not worth it.
I will not get in the car with anyone who has had even one beer.
I will not allow my children to get in the car with someone who has had even one drink.
I have a friend who thinks she's fine after a few beers. She is not allowed to watch my children - even though she has offered to do it for free because that WHAT IF is in my head.
Every year my friends have a HUGE party and there is a lot of drinking. Last year we went and drank water all night. This year we went and Rob drank water all night.
Labor Day is Bradstock. It is $30 for all the BluePoint Beer you can drink. I will be walking there. I will be walking back. I won't drink too much - I rarely do anyway. But we will not be driving. At all.

Re: Drinking alcohol
If I'm driving I won't have any alcoholic drinks. It's just not worth it to me.
1 is too many and 20 is not enough .

Re: Drinking alcohol
i can say yes and most people consider me a big time drinker! My husband and I take turns with driving to events, so i will have one drink typically make it last and then go to water if i am driving for the rest of the night. My husband on the other hand typically can not just have one beer, so he avoids drinking when he drives.

Re: Drinking alcohol
I drank enough in my younger years to last me a lifetime. I don't like the taste of alcohol so I stick to a fruity drink like a Malibu and Pineapple, nurse it, and switch to juice or soda if I'm at a bar. At a house party, it's iced tea or soda. Never do shots because they make me sick to my stomach and don't taste good to me anyway.
I don't need to drink to have a good time so I might not have even one alcoholic drink. But I've also got 10 years or more on a lot of people here so I might be in the minority.

Re: Drinking alcohol
I chose the option "I don't drink when driving". But I also could limit myself to one drink. It depends on my mood.

Can I? Yes. I don't NEED that second drink.
But it's rare. To me, drinking alcohol is about the nice warm buzz it gives you. If I'm not going to be able to drink enough to achieve that, I hate to waste the calories.
So for me, it's kind of all or nothing.
I feel the same way - if no buzz is involved it's not worth the waste of calories to me....unless it's wine with dinner which I enjoy without the buzz
This past weekend we had a party in the Hamptons - I could see that my DH was getting trashed so I only had 2 beers in the afternoon and then I only drank water after 8pm b/c I knew I had to drive if I wanted to go home - which I knew I would b/c I hate not sleeping in my own bed.....so I CAN stop drinking even though other people are still drinking and partying if I KNOW that I have to drive later on.....We left around 1:00am which was at least 5 hours after I finished 2 beers...
After reading about all the drunk driving accidents I look at drinking and driving a little bit differently - especially after reading those impact statements dani posted....
Before I wouldn't think much about having 1 beer and driving or DH driving - or having a glass of wine with dinner and then driving - but i will not do that anymore....to be honest when i drive late at night i get nervous worried about other drivers that might be drunk....even though there can be drunk drivers at any time i worry more late at night....i think i def saw a drunk (or very sleepy) driver on the way home from the Hamptons and it was scary!

Re: Drinking alcohol
I put not at a bar BUT that is because when I go to a bar it is to indulge. However, we go out in Bay Ridge and cab it or in the city and we take PT.
Can I stop at 1 drink - yes. And I have.

Re: Drinking alcohol
Yes- I can have 1 drink
I do like to drink- but I would never drink and drive- I have no problem taking a cab home
now that I live in Long Beach- we walk or take cabs
if we go out outside of LB- one person is the driver and maybe has a beer- maybe

Same....DH is DD since he doesn't (can't) drink. (although with me being pregnant we're both DDs!) However, if I'm out somewhere alone with my girls (like out to dinner) and have to drive home later....it's one or none. but I could totally hang out and not have a drink, it would never be a problem but to be honest with DH being DD I will admit, i love me some wine or blue moon if we are out :) (which is rare! )

Re: Drinking alcohol
If I'm driving, I don't drink at all or have one and than won't drive for hours!
But if I'm not driving, I don't see the point of having one drink? LOL.
At a restaurant however, I typically only have one glass of wine with dinner (not driving).

Re: Drinking alcohol
I don't drink if I am the one driving with our kids. Not even a drink. DH and I decide before we go somewhere who is driving home. If me and DH need to drive somewhere without the kids I might have 1-2 drinks but that is it.
All of my life I have gotten cabs or taken mass trainsiet when drinking. I just never wanted to chance it.

Absolutely, I do it all the time!! Well that is, when I do drink, which is pretty rare. If we're out at a party I'll have 1 and nurse it for a while; then I'll usually switch to soda. Sometimes I'll have another if it's really good before going to soda. If I'm driving then I don't drink alcohol at all.

Re: Drinking alcohol
Yes and I do it often. I can enjoy one glass of wine with dinner and be satisfied. I really like a cold beer at a BBQ on a hot summer day and sometimes one is enough for me. I like the taste of beer and wine and some hard liquor and enjoy drinking it, but that doesn't mean I have to get buzzed or wasted every time I have a drink.
Sometimes I choose not to drink at all and other times I will drink more than one. I don't drink at all anymore if I am driving, not even if I will be there for 5 hours before driving. As a PP said, there's always a "what if" in my head, especially now that I am a parent. I never have one drink if I am home alone with my son. What if I had to take him to the hospital or had some other emergency? What if DH's car broke down and I had to put DS in the car to go pick him up. Too many variables in life to take a chance, IMO.

Re: Drinking alcohol
I very rarely drink anymore but when I do, I just have one drink. If DH and I are out, the one driving drinks nothing. We have a child and we are both very serious about this.

Yes. I don't like feeling drunk anymore. especially since I have a 2 year old - what if he needed something from me and I wasn't sober? Even if DH is sober, I need to be too....
