Can I?
Yes.
Do I normally?
No.

If I have to drive, then yes I can not drink or have one drink at the beginning of a long night and be done.

same for me. I will just start drinking water after my one drink if I'm driving or don't want to drink for some other reason...

Re: Drinking alcohol

Absolutely, however, if I know I'm driving, I almost never drink. It's just not worth the worrying I'll do, even if I just have one drink. That, and I have no desire to really drink alcohol ever. Even when I want wine or something, I end up not having it because it's not really something I care to drink.

Can you go to a bar or party and only have ONE drink?

I could.. but i wouldn't want to. For me it's either all or nothing.
One drink would be a tease.

If we go somewhere, we decide beforehand who's the DD - usually its DH Chat Icon
If i'm the DD, then i'd maybe have one or two, then soda or water for the rest of the night just to keep the hands occupied..

Re: Drinking alcohol

I'm not a drinker so yes.

If I have 2 drinks, its a lot.

I never really liked the taste of alcohol & after some really bad hangovers, I vowed never to drink like a fish again. I cant deal with being sick for the 2 days following my drink fest & honestly, its not worth it for me.

I would never pass up an incredible martini though. I'm by no means a monk. My age is catchin up to me & my body just cant handle alcohol as good as it used to.

Re: Drinking alcohol

I can absolutely not drink or just have one drink. If the party is at my house then i drink more usually.

My DH never drinks, he doesn't like the taste or feeling, so if we are out, he is always driving. If we are out, i can totally have one drink and that be my cutoff.

I also got really drunk out of my mind on december 30th 2007 and swore i would never drink that much again, and i have kept that promise to myself.

I can go and have no drinks...I drank enough in college to satisfy my craving for the rest of my life. I only hope and pray that pictures never resurface from that time!Chat Icon

Yes. It's generally the most I drink anyway. I hate all the empty calories in alcohol. Chat Icon

Can I? Yes. I don't NEED that second drink.

But it's rare. To me, drinking alcohol is about the nice warm buzz it gives you. If I'm not going to be able to drink enough to achieve that, I hate to waste the calories.

So for me, it's kind of all or nothing.

Absolutely. I hardly ever drink anyway!

Me too. I'm not much of a beer drinker, so I normally don't have anything to drink if we go somewhere. If there's hard liquor, I might have 1 drink, and then I'm done for the night.

No.

My husband is always the DD because he really doesn't drink much at all anyway.

If I have to drive, then yes I can not drink or have one drink at the beginning of a long night and be done.

Luckily I don't have to drive very often! Chat Icon

This is exactly what I was going to say.

Oh yeah. And I've been out plenty of times and drank nothing -- just a coke or water.

Re: Drinking alcohol

I can. I'm not really a big drinker at all. I get stupid drunk MAYBE 1 time a year... the thought of drinking and the thought of the potential hangover really keep me from drinking more than one. I make the one drink last a while.

Re: Drinking alcohol

I can only have 1 drink and stop. But if I know I am going to be the DD I prefer not to drink at all. But having one drink and stopping doesn't really bother me.

Re: Drinking alcohol

If I'm driving I stick to water or my new drink...cranberry and seltzer.

If I'm not driving the only way I will limit myself to 1 drink is if I'm going somewhere else after that 1...

ITA. I have many times limited myself to one drink. But to me I would almost rather not drink then limit myself to the one.

If I know I have to drive, then yes, I can limit myself to one or two drinks depending on how much time I have before I'll need to drive.

If I don't have to drive, then I'm not usually so good about stopping at one Chat Icon

Yep...unless I am planning to drink (ie girls' night out) I don't usually finish my second drink whether I am driving or not. All of a sudden when I get to the half way point of my second drink I just can't drink it any more.

yes, when I go to a bar I usually don't have any drinks. In fact, since I don't drink I hardly ever go to a bar, lol. I'm always dd and I don't mind since other people enjoy alcohol much more than I do.

Yes I really can! I love to have a good time and indulge. However if I am the DD or what not. ... then I am NOT drinking. It is about being responsible for me

ITA. I would prefer to take a cab home or have a DD and drink up, but if I am the DD or I have to drive myself home than I do not drink more that one drink, and if I'm only staying a short period of time I won't drink at all.
