Re: Drinking alcohol

Yes I really can! I love to have a good time and indulge. However if I am the DD or what not. ... then I am NOT drinking. It is about being responsible for me

YES, Sunday I took DS to my uncles for a BBQ. I had one beer and that was it. If DH was with me I would have had more, BUT I had to drive DS and myself home. Im past that point of my life where I can take a chance. BTDT. Im too old and the rules have changed to much to be a moron.

Yes.
Do I normally?
No.

My husband is always the DD because he really doesn't drink much at all anyway.

If I have to drive, then yes I can not drink or have one drink at the beginning of a long night and be done.

Luckily I don't have to drive very often! Chat Icon

Yes. If I am driving I don't drink at all.

There are times where I just don't feel like drinking, and only have one beer...

Re: Drinking alcohol

Can I? Yes. I don't NEED that second drink.

But it's rare. To me, drinking alcohol is about the nice warm buzz it gives you. If I'm not going to be able to drink enough to achieve that, I hate to waste the calories.

So for me, it's kind of all or nothing.

Re: Drinking alcohol

I really don't drink alcohol if I am the one driving. I have very low tolerance to alcohol. I am tipsy after 1 glass of wine. I cannot build up tolerance either so I am completely OK to have a sprite while others have drinks.

Re: Drinking alcohol

yes, that's all I can really handle before I feel drunk. So I usually have only 1 drink and I usually drink that over time. (I'm talking wine & mixed drinks, because I can't drink beer, I am allergic to barley)

If I go out anywhere and I am driving and DH isn't with me or doesn't want to drive, I don't drink at all. Because my tolerance is so low, I can't have a drink and drive even if its awhile later.

I'm the same way. I don't drink alcohol because I like the way it tastes. I drink alcohol because I want to be buzzed or more. So I don't get the point of having just 1 drink. Now if I enjoyed the taste, then I could see it; but I don't so I won't bother with it and I'll have a non-alcoholic beverage.

if dh wants to drink, we take the train or a cab. I don't drive, so I can drink as much as I want Chat Icon

if dh has to drive, he can certainly curb his drinking and have a coke instead.

anyone that can't limit their intake should find a better way to get home. end of story. TAKE A FOOKING CAB!

Re: Drinking alcohol

I voted wrong b/c I thought the poll wasn't about driving... I should have selected "I don't drink when driving" -- b/c I do NOT drink when driving, not even one.

I CAN - and often do - go to a bar or party and only have one drink. I'm not a drink to get drunk person. In that case, though, we're either taking the train or someone else is DD.

Re: Drinking alcohol

the most I have ever had when driving is a glass of wine- but always when we first get to the place and we usually leave hours later anyhow.

when dh drives, he will have about 2 but spread over 4-5 hours

I voted not at a bar.

At a Bar-b-cue, party, outing I would turn down a drink. I sometimes try to have a beer but I can never finish one.

We don't go to bars often so when we do go, it is known I am having more then one drink because it would be "our time" out.

ETA: DH was never a drinker so I have my own personal chauffeur Chat Icon

Re: Drinking alcohol

absolutely. I'm not a big drinker and prefer not to drink when I'm out actually.
If I'm driving, I refuse to drink at all.
So that's why I rarely drink when I'm out - in case something happens and I need to drive.

Re: Drinking alcohol

After college, I've pretty much been a non drinker. I dont like how alcohol makes me feel. I can live without it. When I was young and stupid, alcohol was fun. Once I was more responsible for myself and realized serious consequences for drinking (aside from those associated with driving), I thought less of getting blasted and did not see the need. I also never really succumbed to the pressures of others who tried to get me to drink.

Since weight loss surgery, I get VERY drunk off of a few sips and alcohol can be like poison that could get me very ill. Drunk and ill is no way to be.

I think there reaches a point where getting drunk is stupid. For G-d's sake, Im going to be 40 years old next year. It would be damn sad if I needed alcohol to make me feel good.
