Re: Drama vs. Debate
I think the problem here arises with the original poster, usually.
IMO, threads turn into drama when the original poster is not happy with the responses he/she receives. So, the OP gets defensive and the thread quickly turns to drama.
I've seen a lot of threads on here that are debates and although not everyone has the same opinion (obviously) people express their opinions and sometimes it gets ugly, but usually not. I think after a while most people agree to disagree.
What I never do understand is why people get upset when they are called out on things. I've seen it over and over...I even started a thread about it once. I swear some people have no memory, they post about their life and then get upset if they have something thrown back at them.

so true!!!!
drama ensues when the OP posts something looking for "validation" and doesn't get it.
and people post a ton of info and then get upset when others put 2 + 2 together!

Word!!!
Daniela- i also agree with your idea- most times, i think its a debate or whatever, and then random people- who usually weren'teven involved int he thread- start posting stupid responses like "Can't we all get along".. "why is there so much DRAMA".. and i jsut sit here and
oh yeah... and i also think it turns into "drama" when people can't handle the truth-> then they get to label it as drama and pretend that it has no relevence

Re: Drama vs. Debate
I am guilty. Pretty much any debate, heated topic or whatever I refer to as drama. I don't think, before tonight, there was anything to distinguish one from the other in my head. I will try to use words more appropriatly for now on.

still cant figure how to quote after all these years.
it makes me mad when an original poster asks for an opinion and when one is given and doesnt like it gets very defensive and then when they start changing the story it looks even worse. for a person to say wait this doesnt make sense can you explain how is that person wrong?

Re: Drama vs. Debate
Simply, when it becomes personal - name calling, focusing on the person instead of the idea, baiting with , , etc. and commonly used snide phrases purposely used to incite anger.
I'm right/you're wrong debates are boring to me. The ones with the good stuff are where people are actually open to other opinions besides their own. Open dialogues with facts along with opinions.
Sadly, that doesn't happen much that I can see and debates-->drama-->pulled becomes the norm.

I think you hit the nail on the head. A debate could arise if a poster asks a non-personal question (I think) like "What are your thoughts on abortion." Or "How do you feel about dogs in the grocery store" But when a poster asks a more personal question like "I slap my kid around, do you think that's wrong", drama is sure to ensue (that's a terrible example, I know, but you see where I'm going).

IMO, it's drama when someone tries to impose/force their views on others.
ie: " I can't believe you don't do it my way!"

I
I agree, but it isn't always the OP, it can be anyone in the thread.
I think what it boils down to is some people can't handle being wrong, or having others point out inconsistencies in their point of view or stance on something. So, they get defensive, their LIF friends jump in to defend them, POOF instant drama....
