Drama vs. Debate

Not sure what happened here today so this is not based on any thread today.

When is a thread "drama" and when is it a discussion? I have been on some threads that I thought were great threads of people expressing opposite points of view while remaining respectful that others labeled "drama." To me, as long as there is no name calling and just airing of views, it's a good debate.

Your thoughts?

Re: Drama vs. Debate

I think a thread becomes dramatic when people post in haste and in order to save face they go with an original statement rather than retract and apologize.

or

Someone can have a very passive/aggressive nature and uses the internet as a forum for their behaviors and even then, in cowardice.

I have no idea what happened today either.

Re: Drama vs. Debate

I completely agree with you!

As long as no one name calls or says someones opinion is wrong.........then it's just a discussion.

Right -- but does disagreement automatically mean "drama?" It seems to get classified as such on here and I don't get it

I think it depends on the amount of time, energy and passion a person is willing to take and expel.

I think the longer the threads go, the more drama they become.

That being said, I have learned not to post anything remotely private, beause the drama of one post gets added to and becomes a whole different story, and the original post gets forgotten, or added to.

THAT being said, people need to remember that this is a public forum and NOBODY knows the whole story exept for you, so people need to be careful what they write

ps - I have no idea what happened today.

I agree with you.

I think it can become drama when you have a group attacking one person also.

Oh I know, but drama generally ensues from the most innocent of threads.

Great answer. Love it. I laughed out loud...

Then read this and laughed even more!
LOL

I do agree though.
Debate: Ideas, opinions.
Drama: Silliness. I agree with the poster who also said, the more pages to the thread the more it gets turned into drama.

In my long a$$ time on these boards I have found that almost all threads are "drama" and I can only remember one thread that was an actual debate

I think the exchange of differing opinions and ideas in a thread is a typical thread. I wouldn't even classify it as a debate, though I suppose you could.

As for a thread that has "drama" on it... Those are when the exchanging of opionions turns ugly... Name calling, personal pot shots, etc.

Side bar:
I also think there are people out there who will post "controversial" topics with the hope of brewing drama rather than harmless debate.
