Re: Down Payment
We didn't buy in LI. We got a 100% FHA loan. 0% down. Couldn't have a house with new appliances otherwise...since we used savings to buy "toys".

Re: Down Payment
We put down 33% - all from savings, and DH cashed out a few stocks he had been day-trading. It was our best investment yet.

Re: Down Payment
We used all the money we received as wedding presents, some of our savings, and DH's company relocated us - so we were able to use the money from the relocation package for part of the downpayment and all of the closing costs. We put down about 25% of the purchase price of our home.

Re: Down Payment
I did close to 100% financing on my first 65k property back in 2000.
Fast forward to now... everything I have bought consisted of a downpayment from RE profits.

Re: Down Payment
Savings. We bought about 6 months before the wedding so that money is going to home improvements.

Re: Down Payment
We bought our house before we got married so I had the down payment from lots of commission checks. It was great to have the wedding money after the fact.

My house was about 4X that (in another state ) and we did 100% financing. Actually, it's really rare to put any money down here...the most is 10% - there are many options to buy with whole financing. NY is one of the few states that you must put a lot of $$ down to own...I hope that changes soon for all of you out there looking!!

Re: Down Payment
For our co-op we only had to put down 3% (this is 3 years ago). We used the profit from selling the co-op as a down payment on our house.

We have no "profit" from our wedding- it cost us Nobody gifting us anything No prior homes we've owned to cash in No investments that hit big
We are using plain old fashioned savings from working our hineys off
us too and sometimes it seems like we are never going to save enough to buy a home.

I am feeling the same way!!! We are totally just getting by, but we can't stay in a small apartment with a child for too long!
