Down Payment

WHere did you get the money for your house down payment? Did you have it saved or did you borrow it?

Re: Down Payment

Some of it was our wedding money, the rest money my parents invested for me throughout my life.

Re: Down Payment

we saved for a 1year, like 2 lunatics. We were like 2 scrooges going to the bank every week waiting to reach our goal.

Re: Down Payment

We saved like mad and cashed in a stock...we're putting 20% down and have/had another 10% in the bank (for closing, taxes, renovations).

Re: Down Payment

Part was savings, part was a withdrawal from DH's 401K plan.

Re: Down Payment

My MIL... the most generous woman in the world. We're looking to buy another house now, and we have half the downpayment in savings and for the rest we're taking a home equity line for our current house and will pay it off with the profit we'll make on selling it.

Re: Down Payment

We have no "profit" from our wedding- it cost us
Nobody gifting us anything
No prior homes we've owned to cash in
No investments that hit big

We are using plain old fashioned savings from working our hineys off

Re: Down Payment

we put down 20%...from savings. Luckily DH is partly commission-based so before and after we were married, we were able to save those commission checks for the house.

Re: Down Payment

We are putting down 20%. We saved the money in one year. But we also aren't buying on LI.
