Does anyone commute daily by car from LI to Queens?

So, DH and I are thinking about moving to LI. Not too deep in, maybe Great Neck or something. Does anyone drive to Queens at all for work or anything? I'm trying to figure out how the commute would be. And if we should just stay on Queens. TIA

it depends where you work and where you move to.

If you moved to Great Neck and worked in Bayside you could totally take side streets and avoid major delays.
If you move to Ronkonkoma and work in Long Island City I would say you woukld definitely have a long-@ss commute daily Chat Icon

Hmmm. I work in Astoria. From what I've heard-the commute to LI is always bananas. But I figured it was worth asking again here.

I used to work in Woodside & commute from Lindenhurst. It was a LONG drive; especially in the am. In the pm I would leave around 330 & miss most of the traffic, but it was still a slow go. It also adds 2 hours onto your day.

But if you were in Nassau (Great Neck, Little Neck, Mineola, NHP, Franklin Square, Garden City) to Astoria, that wouldn't be too bad.

My DH commmutes daily to the LIC/Astoria area. It's a long-arse haul for him. 45 minutes on a no traffic day. We are north shore Nassau, but further east than Great Neck.

I work in Astoria too (I actually grew up there). I commute daily from Huntington Station, just over the Suffolk border.
I start out at 5am and the drive in is pretty much a breeze on the LIE. I make it in about an hour. Going home later is when I hit some traffic.

We live in Old Westbury and DH drives to Woodside everyday. He leaves at 6:30am and it takes him about 30-45 minutes in the morning. He leaves all different times at night but usually it takes him about an hour to an hour and a half tp get home.

I work in Astoria and live in Franklin Square... the commute isnt all that bad but it depends on what time you leave and what day of the week.... I know if I am not on the CIP by 7:10 the lastest I am going to sit in traffic.... The average time it takes me in the morning is 35-45 mins....coming home is a differnt story but I try to leave Astoria around 6 pm and found its alot better...

Re: Does anyone commute daily by car from LI to Queens?

I have the reverse commute. I live in Queens and work in Melville. The drive is pretty much a breeze for me - but I do look at west bound traffic every day and remember how thankful I am that I'm not going in the direction. If you have to do it - I suggest hitting the road early. I guess it's a matter of opinion but I'd rather an easy commute and getting to work early than stuck in traffic to get there at regular time.

Re: Does anyone commute daily by car from LI to Queens?

I used to drive from Holbrook to Rikers island. It was the worst. I would leave at 530am and still hit traffic and would leave Rikers by 2pm to avoid the traffic home.....traffic in the afternoon was always worse.

I go from south hempstead to little neck, sometimes it take 15-20, other times 30-40.

I work with some who lives in Little Neck whose husband works in Astoria, she has said more then once that he hates his commute.

I live in Great Neck and drive to Queens every morning.( Around 6:45-7:00am) Near the Maspeth area...it takes me about 30-40mins in the morning and back home. I've had better days when there is less traffic and its like 25mins. I take northern to the clearview to get onto union then just to Queens Blvd. This route is shorter traffic wise for me. HTH

Re: Does anyone commute daily by car from LI to Queens?

I live in Suffolk County and commute to Queens every day. With no traffic it takes me 50 minutes each way. With traffic it could easily take me double that and with snow it takes me 2+ hours. Great Neck is a great area and I would definitely move there and thoroughly enjoy the easy commute to Queens! Chat Icon Chat Icon
