Do you "theme" your Xmas Tree?

Just wondering anybody was as corny as me.

So far:

2007-all silver and red ornaments
2008- Baby's 1st xmas. All light blue and silver.

This year ???? not really sure.

Yes I have a cream/gold ribbon lenox and swarovski crystal tree in my dining room for the past few years and my den has red/green traditional plaid.

Before the cream/gold I did a victorian pink/sage theme...I love theme trees!

Re: Do you "theme" your Xmas Tree?

Unfortunately, I haven't had a tree up for a few years, but we're getting one this year.

All of my own ornaments are nautical (pick up buoys, boats, glass fishing floats, etc) but DH has a mish-mosh, so not sure who we'll reconcile them yet or if we'll just combine.

Neither of us can wait though to get the tree after Thanksgiving and decorate!

Re: Do you "theme" your Xmas Tree?

I don't. I couldn't if I wanted to, at least not right now, because we barely have enough storage space to hold all the ornaments and decorations we already have, so I can't justify going out and buying more specifically to match a theme when we have already have a full tree's worth of mis-matched ornaments. And I won't get rid of the ones we already have in order to make room - for sentimental reasons.

Themed trees can be really beautiful and interesting, but for us, I kinda like our mix of all different decorations.

Re: Do you "theme" your Xmas Tree?

i guess....our tree is the regular green tree with only white lights and all gold and champagne colored ornaments with a gold bow on top with 4 matching gold ribbons coming down...and then there are some gold and silver star things that we string....we also have a few ornaments that don't match - like personalized ones, but i try to keep it looking like mostly the gold and champagne colors...

my mom always had a tree with tons of mix matched ornaments and tons of personalized ornaments and just stuff everywhere - very cluttered and you couldn't even see the tree anymore just the ornaments Chat Icon so i think that is why i like to have such a boring tree now hahahaha

Re: Do you "theme" your Xmas Tree?

I think my DH would kill me if I told him I wasn't going to use all our ornaments because I wanted a theme. But I think a theme would be a lot of fun. One day. Chat Icon But I do have a lot of Disney ornaments from collecting them over the years. But I have bought some balls for the tree is colors that match. Last year we bought that bronze color, so some of them were shiny and some dull, and some were different colors of bronze. Plus I bought ribbon to hang from the tree and I had decor in the house that has bronze in it. So we will still use that this year.

But our Family Room, which is on the first level of our Hi-Ranch will be in turquoise/light blues and silver. I wanted to keep that room light and bright with the decor that is already in the room.

All I have to say is thank goodness for attic storage space, or I wouldn't be able to to this!!

We don't. DH and I love to travel and buy an ornament from each place we visited. It's so much fun looking back at the ornaments on the tree and remembering all of our fun trips.

Dining Room: european hand blown Santa ornaments (with some snowmen and Christmas trees thrown in) Mostly Red, Gold & Green filler/garland.

In the past I've done a more victorian themed tree with burgundy velvet ribbons and gold ornaments (mirrors, angels & fruit).

Family Room: Red, Green, Blue, Gold sparkly shatter proof ornaments! Multi-colored lights. Kid friendly. ;)

I've used crystals, creme & gold in the past as well as creme, orange & purple.

Hopefully that will be one of our themes in a few years. We also collect an ornament each time we travel.

Re: Do you "theme" your Xmas Tree?

My first tree (first year married in our new house) I had a hot pink, purple bright green and teal theme. I loved it - it was very ME!

This year is DS's first Christmas, so not sure how we'll decorate so it is appropriate for him.......

We do this too. And my mom gets me an ornament every year, usually reflective of what is going on in my life that year or just something really beautiful.

My tree - and my parents' tree at their house - basically tells a story of where we have been, what we have done (sports, activities), pets, interests, everything. My mom always decorates it nicely with gold beads and white lights and a skirt that matches the living room and she gets so many compliments every year!

That is what I aspire to have - but we are still working on our collection! I do use white lights and red and green beads and a red skirt since red is the accent color in my living room.

I think my tree is the only thing im NOT ocd with. I throw everything on, mix, match, color, etc., it doesn't matter. I have ornaments from generations ago, and I've been collecting different ones myself for a few years, none "go" or make a theme, but they all have sentimental value.

My Xmas tree does not look like it came out of a design magazine, and that's exactly how I want it :)

Re: Do you "theme" your Xmas Tree?

Someday I would like to put a tree in my den as well aand with a theme but for now we put our tree in our living room and it is all different ornaments- many of them we have given each other. Every year, DH, my DS and I pick buy ornaments for each other and I love decorating the tree and remembering which ones we bought where etc. When my DS gets married, I plan on giving him all the ornaments that we have purchased for him through the years.

Yes, the theme is "We have crazy wildcats that live in our home so we put our tree on the front porch and therefore need outdoor unbreakable ornaments"

Re: Do you "theme" your Xmas Tree?

We usually do all of the ornaments we own & then add the balls & garland according to a color theme. The first year we were married we did all silver. Last year was red & silver. This year DH picked out some navy as well so it looks like we're going silver, navy & red this year.

Re: Do you "theme" your Xmas Tree?

nope... we have a bunch of different ones.... some of DHs from when he was growing up, some of mine from when i was growing up, some we've gotten together... my mom usually gives us one every year.
i like teh different ones, and how each ornament has a story behind it. people come over, look at them and we say " i got this at...." or " i got this when...." not just " i bought this ornament because it was silver". we have so much fun getting the ornaments out every year and talking about the stories behind them Chat Icon

Re: Do you "theme" your Xmas Tree?

Nope, ours is a giant mish mosh… growing up our tree always had a ridiculous number of random ornaments on it and that’s what I’m used to. Chat Icon
