If you have a vacation home where is it and how often do you go?

No but my parents own a condo in Ocean City MD. I haven't been there in years (i think 2006) but we plan to take a family trip there in the summer.

My parents use it a few times over the year, mostly in the summer. They have an agent who rents it out by the week when they aren't there.

Yes, but its atypical. We live year round in an area that is pretty rural and is popular for seasonal homes so our other home is an apartment in Manhattan.

We usually go once a month, but it varies.

We own a beach house in Mexico with BIL and MIL (equal shares along with an office building, a few other lots, and a shopping plaza)

When we lived in SoCal we went at least once a month. It was great.

When we came back to NY it went to 1-2 x a year. Now with the issues in Mexico, we choose not to go at all. I would like to try (since the area is pretty safe), but DH says no (he has seen some not so nice things about Mexico). We are really just waiting this drug cartel thing out to sell it all.

Not exactly. My parents do. Its been in the family since 1907? Next it will go to me. Its on Copake Lake - upstate NY. My front yard is lake. Its just stunning, I love it. We dont go up in the winter too much. Its on a private road, so if were going to go up, you need to plow the road or hire someone to do it. You cant count on it to be done when you go up. In the summers I go up every other week or so. I LOVE it!

My parents do but my sister and I will inherit it. It's only for summer (no heat) and I go about every weekend in summer. My parents are there from mid-June thru mid-Sept.

We bought a townhouse this summer in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. We plan to go during most school vacations.

My parents own a home in Bethany Beach, DE. They spend their whole summer there, and most weekends through the fall and spring. They are there right now, decorating it for Christmas even though we won't be spending Christmas there, LOL. They live in MD, so it's a 3 hour drive, and are now both retired so are there more often.

Not yet but we are planning on buying an apartment in Buenos Aires in the next 2 years. We will go every year until we retire and then we will spend the winters there.

I have my childhood home upstate in Columbia County. We tend to not go on "real vacations" because we pay taxes, utilities, etc. throughout the year on the house up there, so if our money is going there - so are we.

We get up a few times a year. Usually on holidays. It's tough with DH's work schedule. If he had off on the weekend's we'd probably be up at least once a month.

It's tough when there's land involved. You need to have someone you trust to watch over the property & care/maintain it.

In Laws do, Florida.

They go every year, twice a year. We go every year.

Since its a "business", they can only use it for 4 weeks a year personally.

My grandfather had a vacation home in Cape May, NJ. When he died, my mother and her brother inherited it. They split the taxes and repair costs and take care of it together. My uncle lives closer in PA so he is there more often. We go once a summer, it's about a 3.5hr drive. My uncle is thinking of retiring in the next 5-10 years and moving away from PA and was talking to my mom about selling it since he won't be able to take care of it but I think if DH and I are in a better spot financially by then that we will buy him out. My grandfather LOVED that place and I just can't picture anyone else owning it besides our family.

my parents own a condo in Myrtle Beach, SC. I try to go at least 1x a year sometimes 2x, i think i'm the only one that actually goes down there the most!

For everyone with condos/houses down south (like Florida, Carolinas, etc.)... are you able to rent your place out with good success?

How many weeks out of the year are you usually able to get it rented out?

I am possibly looking into buying some property in Florida next year and would like to rent it out when I can.

We do ..not sure if you consider upstate NY a vacation spot...it is in Cairo .....waking up in the morning with deers on my front lawn is vacation...

My family has one that was built by my grandfather back in the 1950s. It is in Liberty, Maine & our front yard consists of a lake. From our front food to the water is 200ft. It was great growing up bc my grandfather & his brother bought a double lot & built identical houses. This enabled all the cousins to spend the summers together. Bc my mom worked in the schools & had summers off, we would leave the day after school ended & returned to NY labor day weekend. My dad would go back & forth to ny so he could work. My family now lives in Maine but maintained our summer cottage tor summer use.

Dh's family has a weekend house in the Poconos. We use to to there at least twice a month.before kids but between all of us, there are 4 kids & schedules do not allow us to be there as much. Plus the house is not really kid friendly nor the outside space proper for them to play.
