No, should I Chat Icon
I don't give them to Colin yet.
Ryan gets them maybe 1-2x wk as a treat - generally on the weekends if we run an errand and he's behaving, I have them handy in my bag.

No but I know they're terrible for your teeth (hence why I don't give them to DD)

Re: Do you consider fruit snacks candy?

Yes, but DS only gets them as a rare treat, maybe 1x a month, if that. I would prefer to give him chocolate, I know the fruit ones are bad for his teeth. Chat Icon

I consider them teeth destroyers. Avoid like the plague. This goes beyond just no. There is no occasional ok for me on this, no moderation, it is a banned substance.

No, I think the organic ones from Whole Foods are fine now and then.

Everything in moderation.

I don't consider them candy but they are horrible for your teeth and I do not buy them for my kids.

Re: Do you consider fruit snacks candy?

I stopped buying the traditional fruit snacks and now will only buy the ones from Trader Joe's or such that are 100% fruit. While these are probably no better on the teeth, at least I feel like they aren't pure corn syrup. So I don't think they are candy, but we don't eat them to replace fruit either.

Re: Do you consider fruit snacks candy?

candy but i give them out to all the kids i babysit in moderation (with parents ok) some kids don't care for fruit so a package once a week isn't going to kill them or their teeth.

Re: Do you consider fruit snacks candy?

No I dont but I would only get the ones that are "healthy". I think the welches ones with the real fruit. I wouldnt give them to DS often anyway.

Fruit snacks aren't really a replacement for real fruit. I don't even think they have real fruit in them, do they?

Re: Do you consider fruit snacks candy?

while I dont think they are candy. My ped dentists basically banned them, so DS only gets them once in a while!

I used to give them to him all the time, thought they were a "good" snack. I felt so bad when the dentist told me the truth!

They have fruit juice and are "natural." Parents have them in their cabinets for treats. I wouldn't substitute it with real fruit but the kids I babysit eat the fruit snacks and pretzels as a treat. I honestly don't think the kids I watch eat any fresh fruit besides processed fruits. However they love veggies!
